Elaine Thomas Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Oxley-Heard Funeral Directors on Feb. 27, 2026.
Elaine Blue Thomas passed away at her home on Sunday, February 27, 2026. She was born in Fernandina Beach, Florida on November 11, 1940 to Willie and Lucinda Blue.

Born and raised in Fernandina Beach, Elaine would graduate high school before relocating to New York for a little time for work. Elaine would find employment in Miami, Florida and decided to move back to Florida. Her career would take her to the Ritz Carlton where she would spend the rest of her journey working at the hotel as an employee in Food Service until she retired at the age of 68 Elaine was a proud member of the opening team when The Ritz Carlton was showcasing on DAY 1 for business.

Elaine found joy in cooking and cleaning and cleanliness was imperative as she always took time to ensure her family's home, especially clothing, was always clean. Some would say they never saw anyone wash clothes as frequently as Elaine did and clothes were absolutely not allowed to accumulate in the basket. She enjoyed washing clothes and she did it with pride. Sewing was another hobby that Elaine took pleasure with.

In her leisure time, Elaine would visit a couple of her favorite places on Sundays, an old hangout called The Honey Dripper and Evans, on American Beach.

One of Elaine's favorite pastimes in the home was listening to Soul Music. She found enjoyment playing records, listening, and dancing in the house, especially to music by James Brown.

Elaine was absolutely a wonderful, caring, loving, and outstanding mother who we are all very proud of, having her in our lives. "However, be warned, mom didn't take no mess!"

Elaine is preceded in death by her parents Willie and Lucinda Blue. She is survived by daughters, Yolande Thomas and Pamela Bishop, and son, Waymon Bishop.

Elaine's family will receive family and friends on Saturday, March 7, 2026 at noon for a viewing and visitation with services to begin at 1p.m. She will be laid to rest at O'Neal Cemetery in Fernandina Beach after the service.
