Eleanor Jean Brzozowski DiProsperis, a beloved mother, nana, friend and dedicated nurse, passed away peacefully on September 12, 2025, with her daughter, Lisa Brooks, by her side, at Transitions Healthcare in Washington, PA. She was 84 years old.

Born on April 16, 1941, in Wheeling, West Virginia, Eleanor devoted her life to the care and well-being of others. Eleanor graduated from Wheeling Hospital School of Nursing where she was chosen as Student Nurse of the Year. This undoubtedly set the trajectory for her long illustrious career. Eleanor earned a Bachelor of Science in Nursing from West Liberty State College and later graduated from WVU with her Masters, along with her daughter, Lisa, a first mother-daughter for WVU. Her career as a nurse spanned an impressive 50 years at Wheeling Hospital, where she touched countless lives with her compassion and unwavering dedication.

Her work positions were diverse and influential, ranging from staff nurse of the ICU/CCU to Head Nurse of the Medical/Surgical Unit, and later as Nurse Manager of the Intermediate Care Unit. She served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist, Patient Care Coordinator and Nursing Supervisor among many other roles. Eleanor was also a respected Guest Lecturer and Presenter at numerous educational programs and conventions, sharing her knowledge and passion for nursing with others.

Eleanor was an active member of various professional organizations, including the American Nurses Association, West Virginia Nurses Association, Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society and Wheeling Hospital Alumnae Association. Her contributions to the nursing community were recognized with numerous honors, including being named in Who's Who in American Nursing and receiving the Volunteer of the Year and Distinguished Service Award from the West Virginia Affiliate of the American Heart Association. Eleanor was also chosen as a Nurse Delegate with People to People Ambassador program to the First US-China Nursing Conference in Beijing, China

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Eleanor volunteered her time and expertise as a nurse for clinics in her community and abroad, including Catholic Charities, Appalachia and Haiti. Her commitment to health and community was evident in her role as President of the WV Affiliate of American Heart Association and as a continued member of the Wheeling Hospital Alumnae. Through these organizations she worked tirelessly to improve the lives of those around her. Eleanor was also an active member of Corpus Christi Parish for many years where she wore many hats and most recently served on the Pastoral Council.

Her love of travel enriched her life, and she shared this passion with so many friends and family. Together they explored Europe, South America, China, Hawaii, and many other destinations. One of her most cherished experiences was a mission trip to Pignon, Haiti, where she extended her caring spirit beyond borders. She traveled frequently to her daughter's to watch whatever sport her grandchildren were involved in. Eleanor also found joy in countless cruises and was known for her avid enthusiasm for shopping.

Eleanor was preceded in death by her parents, Edmund Walter and Mary Kuropatwa Brzozowski. She is survived by her loving daughter, Lisa Brooks, and her husband, Jeff, of Alexandria, VA. Eleanor also leaves behind her cherished grandchildren: Tyler, McKenzie, and Logan Brooks, who were the light of her life.
