Eleanor Eddy Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Ingram Funeral Home - St. Marys on Jan. 20, 2024.
Eleanor Ruth (Varner) Eddy, 96, of St. Marys, passed away on January 19, 2024 at WVU Medicine Camden Clark. She was born on May 8, 1927, a daughter of the late George Byron and Anna Marie (Taylor) Varner. Ruth played violin in high school and was a member of the All-State Orchestra. She was the last surviving member of her St. Marys High School Class of 1945.
Ruth married the love of her life, Paul Herbert Eddy, on April 30, 1950, after meeting on a blind date. They were married for almost 39 years until his death in 1989. Except for about a year living in Texas when Paul was in the military, Ruth spent her entire life in St. Marys, and was actually born in her childhood home on McKim Street. She loved supporting WVU and St. Marys High School athletics and was proud to be a Mountaineer. She was a faithful member of the Dewey Avenue Church of Christ. Throughout her life, Ruth enjoyed collecting Beanie Babies, Fenton glassware and Longaberger baskets. She also loved QVC shopping! But her favorite thing was spending time with family!
Ruth is survived by her two children Joyce Ann Hubner (Terry), Millwood, WV and Michael Paul Eddy (Tina), Belpre, Ohio; four grandchildren Dionne Meyer (David), Jennifer Hughes, Dustin Hughes and Eva Phillips (Gary). She was the proud Gigi to great-grandchildren Joel & Katelyn Meyer and Quincy & Luna Phillips. She is also survived by niece Jeri Hall, who was the flower girl at her wedding, and nephews Kevin Wright and Bobby Eddy. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister Martha. The family wishes to thank the 3N staff at Camden Clark for their care and compassion during Mom's last days. Special thanks to The Heritage at St. Marys staff for the extraordinary love and care they have provided during the past six years!
Funeral services will be held 2:00 P.M. Friday, January 26, 2024 at Dewey Avenue Church of Christ in St. Marys with Dale Parsley officiating. Burial will follow in the IOOF Cemetery. Visitation will be at Ingram Funeral Home from 4 to 8 P.M. Thursday and from 1 to 2 P.M, Friday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the West Virginia School of Preaching, P.O. Box 785, Moundsville, WV 26041 with Ruth Eddy in the memo line.
