Eleanor P. Steckel

Eleanor P. Steckel, 81, of Steel City died Wednesday, March 25, 2026 in her home surrounded by the love of her family. She was the wife of George D. "Butch" Steckel with whom she shared 48 years of marriage prior to his death on March 19, 2010. Born in Bethlehem, she was the daughter of the late Theodore and Julianna (Dancs) Unangst. After attending Bethlehem Catholic High School, she met and married her husband. She assisted her husband as a bookkeeper in his business Steckel Excavating. In her spare time, Eleanor could be found taking care of others and giving a helping hand to family, friends and anybody who needed help. She was a faithful member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Catholic Church, Bethlehem. In her younger years, Eleanor enjoyed attending car shows with her husband. She was a very good cook who enjoyed shopping for the perfect ingredients for her recipes. Fond of animals, she loved her dogs and grand dogs.

Survivors: Son, George D. Steckel, Jr. and his wife Tanya; daughter-in-law, Melissa Steckel; grandson, Nicholas Steckel all of Steel City; grandson, Ronald "Ronnie" Drabert of Potter County; sister-in-law, Margaret "Peg" Mansfeld of Hellertown; nephew, Eric Mansfeld and niece, Beth White. She was predeceased by her son, Michael D. Steckel and siblings, Elizabeth Skomitz, Julianna Miller, Theodore Unangst, Jr., Richard Unangst and Robert Unangst.

Service: A Funeral Service will be held at 2:00PM Monday, March 30, 2026 at the Cantelmi Long Funeral Home. A viewing will be held from 1:00PM to 2:00PM Monday, March 30, 2026 at the funeral home.
