Eleni "Helen" Esber Obituary
Eleni "Helen" Esber, age 77 of Canton, passed away on Monday, February 26, 2024. She was born in Neapoli, Greece on November 19, 1946 to the late Nicholas and Aikaterini (Bourlas) Hatzakis. A graduate of Lehman High School, and furthered her education at Kent State University where she received a Bachelor's Degree in Education. Eleni retired from Plain Local Schools, and also worked as a Realtor for many years in the area. She was a life-long member of St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church, a member of the Cretean Club, past president and member of the Daughter's of Penelope, the Ladies of Philoptochos Society, the Walsh Women's Committee, and the Hall of Fame Queen's Committee for many years.
Eleni was preceded in death by her husband Paul Esber, parents Nicholas and Aikaterini (Bourlas) Hatzakis, and brother and sister-in-law George and Peggy Hatzakis. She is survived by her niece P. Nichole Hatzakis of Canton, and other many cousins, nieces, nephews, and dear friends.
Family and friends will be received at St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church on Wednesday, March 6, 2024 from 10 to 11 a.m. Funeral services will begin in the church at 11 a.m., with Rev. Dr. Nicholas V. Gamvas officiating. Interment to follow in Forest Hill Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Haralambos Greek Orthodox Church (251 25th St. N.W. Canton, Ohio 44709).
