EAST BRUNSWICK - ELI KOMM passed away on Friday, October 21, 2022, at his home, surrounded by his loving family. He was 76 years old.
Born in Tel Aviv, Israel, he immigrated to the United States, living in Brooklyn, NY, before moving to East Brunswick 38 years ago.
Prior to retiring in 2021, he was a business owner for over 50 years.
He loved life and all its treasures it had to offer. In his earlier years, Eli enjoyed sailing with his family and his thirst for life never stopped him from going out no matter the conditions. After moving to NJ, Eli traded in his sail boat for new toys, a sports car and motorcycle, in which he participated in several runs with a motorcycle club. Fast forward a few years later, Eli would find himself chasing down fires as a volunteer fireman and running to the rescue as a volunteer EMT with the East Brunswick Rescue Squad. Even with all of his activities, Eli dedicated time to his family and friends, going on hikes, running races, enjoying restaurants, and most importantly celebrating the lives of his 3 grandchildren whom he cherished and adored. Eli was always a kid at heart, which was a very big heart, he would always find a way to make them smile and have a grand time. Not only did he have a huge impact on his family, his infectious smile and wealth of knowledge inspired many around him.
Eli selflessly devoted his spare time as a volunteer firefighter with the East Brunswick Independent Fire Department for over 30 years. His commitment as a first responder was heroic, but he was far too humble of a person to consider himself a hero.
In his late 60s, Eli became a Marathon runner. Remarkably, then, in his 70s became a triathlete. He was inspired to partake in the sport by the younger of the two daughters he adored, an Ironman athlete. Though trained with immense rigor and was intent upon becoming an Ironman himself, his medical conditions sadly intervened. He also participated in the sprint triathlon in Point Pleasant, NJ where he had taken first place in the 70+ age group in the duathlon category.
Surviving are his wife of 51 years, Arlene (née Trombley); his daughters, Jennifer Baron and her husband, Robert, of Fair Haven, and Gail Komm of Highland Park; his brother, Matania Komm of Tel Aviv, Israel, and his grandchildren, Robert, Thomas and Elizabeth Baron.
Family and friends may visit on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, from 11:30 to 12:00 PM, at MOUNT SINAI MEMORIAL CHAPELS, 454 Cranbury Road, East Brunswick, where a service will be held at 12:00 PM. Interment to follow at Beth Abraham Cemetery, East Brunswick. For directions, please visit our "Services" page.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the East Brunswick Independent Fire Company would be appreciated and meaningful to the family. Donations may be made to 216 Joseph Street, East Brunswick, NJ 08816 or by using this link: https://www.ebifc.org/about/donate/
