Elizabeth Ayers Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Cranston Funeral Home on Dec. 31, 2024.
Elizabeth Star Ayers, age 102, of Seaford, passed peacefully at home on December 23, 2024, from natural causes with Hospice Care. She was just 25 days from her 103rd Birthday. Star was born on January 17, 1922, in Georgetown, DE
Star is survived by her son Mark, who had been his mother's caretaker since the passing of her husband, Layton Ayers in 2008. Also, Tiffney assisted with appointments and needs, including Connie, Margo, and other members of the family. She surely will be missed by many families, and friends. Star had a beautiful smile, was alert, able to make her own decisions and loved by many.
Star was born and raised on a farm in Georgetown, De with her parents Granville and Clara Goslee, and sister Louise. Star attended Georgetown High School and graduated in 1941. Star continued her education and graduated from Sullin's College, Bristol, Va. In 1943.
In 1944, Star married S. Layton Ayers, also from Georgetown, DE. A few years later they moved to a Farm in Seaford, DE where they lived and raised three sons, Tim, Sydney, and Mark, who were the love of her life.
Stars' hobbies and joys included her love of riding horses "Bay Boy" time at the beach, companion dogs, decorating, reading, and time with her sister Louise. She also enjoyed Antiquing and heading up St. Lukes Antique shows with her best friend Jean Harton. Later years included time traveling with Layton in his beloved motorhomes, golfing, dinner with friends Bill and Averil Crewe, children, and grandchildren. Her love for dogs never ceased, her last companion "Hank" her beloved Pudding Jack Russell passed only months ago. Stars' passion and calling was for Vitamins and tried to heal everyone she met. Researching what vitamins would be the cure. Despite her worshiping sun she did not have more than two wrinkles on her face. So, she had the vitamin cured for wrinkles after all!
Some of Star's adulthood achievements and endeavors include her and Layton spending many nights creating and printed flyers to promote the movies showing at the Ayers' family theaters. Star would circulate them on cars in parking lots in Seaford and local towns. They were contacted by Woolworths' Co. at the Nylon Capital Shopping center to add store specials on the flyer. This led to co-founding Sussex Printing and the Guide. Star did many tasks, creating, and collating the Guides with help from friends, then delivering Guides.
She and Layton also purchased the Seaford Inn Restaurant, which she enjoyed decorating and hosting, Amway dealers, Children's Place Day Care (Laurel, DE), Antique Shop, and Animal Rescue Organization to name a few.
Star is survived by her sons, Mark Ayers (Connie) and Tim Ayers, grandchildren, Tiffney Ayers Belcher (Dyke), Margo Ayers, Amy Ayers Higgins (Ed), and An Ayers Vane (Chris), great grandchildren, Sidney Kilgo Walker (Michael), Tatum Ayers, Aully Ayers, Taylor Takacs, Lewis Takacs, Arden Takacs, Alex Higgins Sanet, Ross Higgins, and Ava Vane, great-great grandchildren, Ivey Walker, Lacey Walker, Emerson Sanet, and Edwin Sanet. She is also survived by her niece, Inga Quillen Emerson (son, Chad Emerson), as well as special friends and family, Donnie Dickerson and family, Chick Allen, Dave Brumbley, France Ariola, Joanna Harton, Holly Lankford, Diane Lorde Smith, and Megan Hare.
Star was preceded in death by her parents, Granville and Clara Goslee, father in-law, Tom Ayers, mother in-law Margaret Ayers, brother in-law, Harry Quillen, husband Layton Ayers, son, Sidney Ayers, sister, Louise Goslee Quillen, and grandson, Austin Ayers.
Thank you to people, groups, and institutions that have touched Stars' life in support the last 7 years, Tatum Ayers, Shy Covington, Sophie Hanenfeld Nyce, Katheryn Donati, Bayliegh Carlisle, Shea Brown, Mia Wilson, Kayla Booros, Rachel Wood, Hanna Gorski, Chloe Whitaker, Delaney Collins, Shamariah Doakes. Also, Dr. Kim and VITAS Health Care nurses Jessica, Diana, Lorie, and Rachel to name a few.
Please keep family and friends in your prayers. Service will be private per Stars' request. Place of interment - St. Lukes Cemetery, Seaford, DE, Cranston Funeral Home (Seaford, De)

I remember Star so well. I worked at the Sussex Guide with the Ayers in the early days. Star, Tim, myself with a couple others would get together to collate the guide, talking, laughing and it didn't seem like work. I also worked in the dark room and helped put the guide together. I am sorry I am so late, but I just found out she had passed. I want to extend my deepest sympathies to all her family. Judy Thomas
