For someone who knew so much heartbreak and struggle, Elizabeth Marie Braun brought plenty of warmth and love to those who knew her.
She was born on October 29th, 1951 to George and Betty John in Brookline, MA. A few years after, her brother Robert arrived in the world. In 1974, as she sat on a bench in Boston Common, a man named Jeffrey Braun approached her, asking for a light of his cigarette. She didn't smoke - never did - but she gladly accepted his offer to go on a date.
The film they saw? Blazing Saddles. Jeffrey learned Elizabeth possessed a great sense of humor. He would soon find out how big her heart was as well. Marrying the following year, they welcomed their son, Dan. She was everything in a mother their pride and joy could have asked for.
Elizabeth experienced her share of loss. Her entire immediate family passed away between June 1975 and March 1978. She suffered the loss of her son, Jeffrey, Jr., via stillborn in January 1990. In March of 1995, her husband, Jeffrey, perished as a result of injuries suffered in an automobile accident.
There was, however, a persistent source of delight: her son, Dan. She found it impossible to resist telling friends and neighbors, as well as employees of her savings bank, neighborhood Dunkin' Donuts, the Davis Square CVS and United States Post Office, and McKinnon's Meat Market, how proud she was of him. Their love and emotional bond was and will remain forever strong.
The final years of Elizabeth's life included a series of health issues, resulting in multiple admissions between seven Boston-area hospitals and long-term stays at two nursing care facilities. Through it all, she was quick with a smile, a remembrance of details long ago to recent, and genuine compliments for everyone she met. Men were told how handsome they were. Women's beauty did not go unremarked upon.
Elizabeth Marie Braun made the world a better place. Her kindness, her compassion, and her love will endure in all whose lives she completed.
She is survived by her son, Dan, and several in-laws. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Elizabeth, please visit our Tree Store.
