Leo Braun Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Nelson Funeral Care - Cloquet on Oct. 5, 2025.

Leo V. "Bucky" Braun Jr., age 78, of Cloquet, Minnesota, passed away peacefully at home on October 3, 2025, surrounded by his loved ones.

Leo was born on October 9, 1946, in Duluth, Minnesota, to Leo and Eleanor Braun. He proudly served in the United States Army from July 26, 1966, to July 25, 1969. Following his service, Leo built a long and respected career as a licensed electrician with the Duluth, Missabe and Iron Range Railway (DM&IR), where he worked for 35 years before retiring in 2004.

In 1997, Leo met the love of his life, Janie (Hort) Braun. The two were married in 1999 and were inseparable from the day they met. Together, they created a life rooted in love, laughter, and shared purpose - a true partnership in every sense.

Leo was happiest on the land he and Janie made their home. With his own hands, he built their house from the ground up, poured his heart into every detail, and even constructed a bridge over the river that runs through their property. He found peace and joy in the outdoors - cutting and maintaining trails through the woods, caring for the land, and taking in the beauty that surrounded him. Most days, you could find him out in his pole barn or outside from sunrise until dinner, always working on a project, fixing something, or simply soaking in the quiet of nature.

In 2020, Leo was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease, followed by Lewy body dementia. Though the challenges grew, his faith, humor, and strength never wavered. He remained at home - the home he built and loved - until the very end, surrounded by those who loved him most.

A man of deep faith, Leo devoted countless hours to volunteering at Queen of Peace Catholic Church. He will be remembered for his kindness, steady presence, and the way he made everyone feel welcome and cared for. His journey was one marked by hard work, devotion, and love - qualities that defined his life and continue to inspire those who knew him.

Leo is survived by his loving wife of 27 years, Janie; his children, Carrie (Jim) Erickson, Justin (Meghan) LaGesse, and Jenna (Ryan) Majorowicz; and his cherished grandchildren, Madisyn, Logan, Jack, and Beth. He is also survived by his siblings, Janice Anich, Roger (Lucy) Braun, and Gary (Wendy) Braun, along with many nieces, nephews, and dear friends who will miss him deeply.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Leo and Eleanor Braun.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Hospice team - especially Danielle and Lindsay - for their compassionate care and support. They forged an Incredible relationship and are now part of this family. Danielle, Leo made a good choice when he picked you as his best friend.

Visitation will be held on Thursday, October 9, 2025, at Queen of Peace Catholic Church at 1 PM, followed by Mass of Christian Burial at 2 PM. Interment with military honors will be at New Calvary Cemetery, followed by a luncheon at the church.

In lieu of flowers, donations to Queen of Peace Catholic Church in Leo's name are preferred.

Leo's passing leaves a deep void in the hearts of many, but his spirit will forever live on in the home he built, the land he loved, and the countless lives he touched with his gentle strength and unwavering faith.
