Elizabeth Jane "Betsy" Campbell, age 82, of
Jefferson City, Mo., passed away Saturday, April 20, 2024, in
Leesburg, Florida, while wintering with her husband.
Betsy was born on November 14, 1941, in
Paris, Mo., a daughter to the late Roger Louis and Jane (Curtright) Harris. On March 26, 1971, her daughter Jennifer Elizabeth was born at St. Mary's Hospital. On May 16, 1992, she was united in marriage to Reverend Kenneth Lee "Ken" Campbell in Jefferson City.
A lifelong resident of the central Missouri area, Betsy was a 1959 graduate of Paris High School in
Paris, Mo. While growing up, Betsy gained her work ethic by working alongside her father at their family business, Harris Hardware, in
Paris, Mo. She continued her education at Moberly Area Community College for a brief time before joining the workforce.
Having an established strong work ethic, Betsy contributed her skills to various clerical and office jobs for over 30 years. She began her career as a dental assistant and transitioned her career path to work for the State of Missouri in the Design and Construction Division before going to work in an attorney's office in
California, Mo. Betsy dedicated several years to Dulle-Trimble Funeral Home until her retirement in May 1998.
Upon her retirement, Betsy and her husband, Ken, began traveling together and for the last 13 years, wintering in Florida. She cherished the many friends she made in Florida and enjoyed attending trivia nights every week. The warm weather and sunshine brought a sense of peace and immense joy to her life. Betsy and Ken's trip to Yellowstone National Park brought back fond memories for her as she reminisced on the time she spent working at the park during college. Together they were able to experience the grandeur of the Grand Tetons and the beauty of Italy.
Betsy possessed a strong faith and was a long-time member of Cedar Grove Baptist Church in
Holts Summit, Mo. She was passionate about helping the youth in the church and always made it a priority to teach Sunday school classes and served at Vacation Bible School. She had also been a member of a PEO Chapter for well over 50 years, carrying on the tradition of the women in her family.
Maintaining friendships and connections with family was incredibly important to Betsy. She had a creative side and found joy in making homemade cards to lift the spirits of friends and family and let them know she was thinking of them. She was also very skilled with counted cross stitching which led to the creation of beautiful pieces. Her family has always been her biggest pride and joy. She was always there supporting Ken, Jennifer and especially her grandchildren with all their activities and events.
If you knew Betsy, you knew her kind, sweet spirit and loving nature. Her legacy and love will be remembered and cherished by all who were blessed to know and love her.
