In Loving Memory of Elizabeth Colón-Goncálves
November 16, 1954 – August 10, 2025
With heavy hearts and profound love, we announce the peaceful passing of our beloved Elizabeth Colón-Goncálves on August 10, 2025, in Needham, Massachusetts. She was 70 years old.
Born in Passaic, New Jersey, on November 16, 1954, Elizabeth was a guiding light to our family and a source of strength to everyone who knew her. Raised in a close-knit family by her loving parents, Adan and Felicita Colón, she grew up in Boston - the city where she would later raise her own children and become a deeply respected and cherished member of the community.
Elizabeth was the devoted mother of Beverly Colon of Hingham, Victor Cedano of Boston, Brenda Cedano of Quincy, and Elizabeth Colon of Newton. She carried the memory of her late daughter, Sylvia Colon, close to her heart every single day. Though she endured the losses of her sisters Maria Vasquez Colón, Marisol Colon, and her brother Adan Colón, their spirits remained a source of strength and comfort throughout her life.
Her educational journey reflected her determination and intelligence. After graduating high school, Elizabeth earned an associate's degree in accounting from Aquinas College - a steppingstone to a dynamic and diverse career. She worked with dedication as both an accountant and a paralegal for several law firms, and perhaps most memorably, she served as a train conductor on the MBTA Red Line. Whether she was keeping a train on schedule or sharing a warm smile with a stranger, Elizabeth brought compassion and excellence to everything she did.
But beyond her professional accomplishments, Elizabeth's true joy came from the people she loved. She was a proud and loving grandmother to 19 grandchildren and a great-grandmother to 15. Her home in Needham, where she lived for the past eight years, was always filled with laughter, warmth, and the wonderful chaos of family. Her love for her grandchildren knew no bounds, and her stories, hugs, and wisdom will live on in each of them.
Elizabeth also had a deep love for Puerto Rico - its vibrant culture, music, and natural beauty held a special place in her heart. A passionate gardener, she found peace and joy among her flowers. Her garden was not only a display of color and life, but a reflection of who she was: nurturing, strong, and full of grace.
To know Elizabeth was to know someone who gave selflessly, loved fiercely, and lived fully. Her legacy is one of love, resilience, and community. She will be remembered for her infectious smile, her unwavering support, and her remarkable ability to bring people together.
As we say goodbye to our dear Elizabeth, we choose to celebrate her beautiful life - a life rich in purpose, love, and connection. Her spirit will continue to guide us, much like the stars that shine even after they've drifted beyond our view.
"El Señor la llamó de regreso a casa, y en Su infinita misericordia, le dio sus alas. Ahora vuela alto, libre y en paz, rodeada de luz eterna.
Aunque su ausencia deja un profundo vacío, su amor sigue vivo en cada uno de nosotros, como un abrazo que nunca se desvanece."
Though her earthly journey has come to an end, Elizabeth's story will be carried forward in the hearts and memories of all who had the honor of knowing her. Her spirit will continue to guide us, much like the stars that shine even after they've drifted beyond our view.
With love and gratitude,
Her Family
