Elizabeth Ring Freas (Betty)
November 21, 1942 – June 9, 2024
Elizabeth Ring Freas, known by family and friends as Betty, passed away on June 9, 2024 during a brief stay at Rex Hospital in Raleigh. Betty was born in High Point, NC where after finishing High Point High School early, she enrolled at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill, NC, in the UNC School of Pharmacy, following in the footsteps of her father and grandfather. After graduation and receiving her Pharmacy License, she relocated to Raleigh, NC to begin her 40 year career, concentrating mostly in hospital pharmacy, including Wake Memorial Hospital, Rex Hospital and finishing her career at Dorothea Dix hospital. Although a true Carolina blue fan, while working full time, she also took calculus classes at NC State University just for the fun of learning! But she always remained true blue as her true passion was watching UNC sports, first basketball, then football and baseball.
Betty was a devoted mother and grandmother and loved that her grandsons called her Mimi. She lived a long life of love for her family and service to her community. We all loved her and will miss her greatly. After several years of declining health, she is at peace now.
She was preceded in death by her parents, Clifton A. Ring, Jr. and Ann Snipes Ring. She is survived by her husband of 51 years, Warren P. G. Freas, III, her two children, her daughter Kristin Freas Colston (Daniel) of Greensboro, NC and her son, Scott T. Freas (Katie) of Canton, GA, her two beloved grandsons, Joshua
Freas and Jacob Freas, and her brother Clifton A. Ring, III of Myrtle Beach, SC.
The family wishes to express special thanks to The Cremation Society of the Carolinas for their compassionate care and assistance. A graveside memorial service will be held at Raleigh Memorial Park at noon on Saturday, July 27.
