Elizabeth "Liz" Hames was born 4/1/40 in Miami, Florida, and passed on 8/12/25 with her loving family at her side. Mom moved to New York early on and remained there until 1977 when she moved to Florida. In 1983, we moved to St. Augustine. Mom called it home throughout the rest of her life- even through 3 very destructive hurricanes! Mom worked in the hospitality industry, sharing more than 25 years with her employment at Marsh Creek Country Club. She was a bartender, waitress and receptionist at different times in her career and loved her members and employers greatly.
Mom was a devout animal lover and rescuer. She proudly rescued baby squirrels, our paralyzed poodle "Mimi" and countless ducks that had been poisoned in south Florida. Mom was a proud pet owner her whole life and all her pets were blessed to be loved by her.
Mom has been an active member of Saint Anastasia Catholic Church since 1997 and served as Eucharistic Minister at the 10:30 mass for several years. She was also an active member of the YMCA, participating in Silver Sneakers and Tai Chi-even stepping in to help lead the class on several occasions. Covid's quarantine deeply impacted Mom's ability to participate in many of the activities that she loved.
Mom is pre-deceased by her husband Lew, her mother, and her brother Steve. She is survived by her 3 daughters, Donna (John), Lisa (Jim) and Kim, 5 grandchildren, 8 great-grandchildren, 4 ½ great-great-grandchildren, and her brother Richie. We have all been blessed to share our lives with Liz. She will be missed greatly, more than words can convey.
A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anastasia Catholic Church during Saturday, August 30th 4:00 PM Mass. Inurnment will follow at the Church's Columbarium at 5:15 PM.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made to S.A.F.E. Pet Rescue or St. Augustine Humane Society in honor of Liz.
