Elizabeth Jane "Betty" Kampeter

Elizabeth "Betty" Jane Kampeter, 82, of Wardsville, Missouri, passed away peacefully Saturday, October 21, 2023 at her home, surrounded by her family. She was born in St. Thomas, Missouri on May 29, 1941; a daughter to the late Bernard J. and Eleanore A. (Fennewald) Schell. On November 4, 1961, Betty was united in marriage to Richard Kampeter, who survives at their home.
Betty attended St. Thomas Apostle Grade School and was a 1959 graduate of Helias High School. She took great pride in taking care of her home and family. Betty was an incredible interior designer and decorator, and was known for her creative talent and skill. She enjoyed shopping, traveling, and playing cards in her free time. Betty was a member of St. Stanislaus Catholic Church, St. John's Papal Society, and Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulcher. Most importantly, she was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend and will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
She is survived by her husband of nearly 62 years, Rich; children, Michael (Paige) Kampeter, Thomas (Julie) Kampeter, Ann Kampeter, John (Heather) Kampeter, and Andy (Karen) Kampeter; brother, Gary (Millie) Schell; sister, Kathy Kliegel; grandchildren, Brandon, Adam, Trey, Jacob, Claire Kampeter-Benne, Alex, Allison, Kate, and Ava Kampeter; and great-grandchildren, Reese, Gwynn, and Hank Kampeter. She was preceded in death by her parents, parents-in-law, sister, Patricia Schell, and sister, Carol Riley.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Thursday, October 26, 2023 at 10:00 a.m. at the Cathedral of St. Joseph with Msgr. David Cox officiating. A visitation and reception for family and friends to celebrate Betty's life will be held immediately following the mass at the Cathedral of St. Joseph's Undercroft.
In lieu of flowers, expressions of sympathy may be made to St. Benedict's Abbey (1020 N. 2nd Street Atchison, Kansas 66002).
