Elizabeth Rose Karl Nims, age 98, of Powell, Ohio died Friday, May 17, 2025. Elizabeth was born on July 28, 1926 in Warren, Ohio, the daughter of Maurice and Philomena (Hartman) Karl.
She graduated from Warren G. Harding High School in Warren, Ohio, in 1945.
She worked at Second National Bank in Warren. She met her future husband, Harold E. Nims, Jr, at a dance in Newton Falls. They were married on January 15, 1949.
Known to her friends as Betty (although she liked to be called Elizabeth, too) she loved to have fun, saying she wanted to have a good laugh every day. And she loved to spend time with her friends and family. She was a wonderful bridge player. She first learned as a young woman as a way of making friends. Through the game she gained lifelong friends and often found new friends to play. She and Harold spent hours enjoying the game with family and friends. If bridge wasn't in the cards, she was happy to enjoy some hands of euchre.
Betty often said she didn't want a funeral, instead she wanted her loved ones to go out to lunch, go out to dinner, have good conversation and, most of all, have fun.
Elizabeth is survived by Douglas (Liz) Nims of Toledo, Nanci (Scott) Thornberry of East Liverpool, Ohio, Lori (Mike Thrush) Nims of Auckland, New Zealand; seven grandchildren (Nichole Caldwell, Natalie Hylton, Jay Nims, Bill Thornberry, Dan Thornberry, Megan Nims and Chelsea List); seven great-grandchildren (Mackenzie, Camille, Kayleigh and Corinne Caldwell, Isabelle and Lily Hylton and Margaret Elizabeth Nims-Leavy); and daughter-in-law Elaine Beed of Powell.
She is preceded in death by her son, Ronald Nims, and brothers, Robert and Donald Karl, and sisters, Irene Hughes and Ruth Bode.
In lieu of flowers, Elizabeth would want you to take a friend to a meal in her honor, go for a walk with a loved one or enjoy a game of cards. She would want you to enjoy good company and good laughs.
