Mary Leatrice (Roush) Bauer passed peacefully at home surrounded by family on October 24, 2025, in Bexley, Ohio.

Born October 3, 1944 in Muncie, Indiana, to Maurice and Juanita Roush, Mary graduated high school in La Porte, Indiana, and went on to attend Ball State University before transferring to Elkhart General Hospital where she completed her X-Ray Technician certification. After marrying Carl in 1967, her predominant occupation was full-time mom to four well-behaved children before enjoying a 26-year career with OhioHealth. Mary was also a doting grandmother to four grandkids.

Mary shared her abundant joy with so many as a preschool and Sunday School teacher and as a leader of the Methodist Youth Fellowship group with Carl at Gretna United Methodist Church in Louisiana. Mary coordinated school carpools, baked effusively, served witch's brew for tricks-or-treats, hosted 4th of July celebrations, decorated way too many Christmas trees, facilitated Tuesday Cheese Dog Day lunches, sewed brides' garters, crafted newborns' blankets, and cultivated beautiful roses and other flowers in her garden.

In her spare time, Mary served as President of United Methodist Women, Bexley Women's Club, Bexley Music Parents, Cassingham PTO, and Bexley High School PTO while being room mother too many times to mention. Mary cherished her involvement with Daughters of the American Revolution and Cooking Club. At Bexley United Methodist Church she shared her joy by making vegetable soup for the Flea Market, planning Vacation Bible School, supporting the youth musical, and writing and leading Maundy Thursday services.

Mary is preceded in death by her parents, Maurice and Juanita Roush.

Mary is survived by husband, Carl; children John (Kate) Bauer, Chris (Whitney Thompson) Bauer, Jenny (Bryan) McFerin, and Sarah (Krista Smith) Bauer; grandchildren Connor McFerin, Quinn Bauer, Abigayle McFerin, and Madison Parker; brothers Jim (Casey) Roush and Harold Roush; and oodles and oodles of nieces, nephews, and cousins (direct relations and otherwise).

A service to honor Mary will be held at Bexley United Methodist Church 2657 E Broad Street, Bexley, Ohio at 1 p.m. on November 1, 2025, with a gathering there for family and friends following the service.

In lieu of flowers, the family encourages donations to the Alzheimer's Association.

I had the pleasure and honor of knowing Mary for many years through Bexley women's club. We were witches together at the harvest fest, we were on the scholarship committee, and enjoyed other activities such as dessert for club members at her home. My memories of Mary are of a loving and kind woman who was devoted to her family, friends, and church.

Mary Bauer was the sweetest of the sweet. The Bauer house was always open, just walk on in. Mary was there to greet you with a big hug and there was always a plate ready to be filled with her delicious cooking. Such a kind person. She will be missed. May her memory be a blessing.

Mary had the best smile and the best voice! She loved not only her children, but all kids. She found good in everyone. She was always involved in the school, the community and her church. Where she was involved, so was Carl. She was a good woman. May she rest in peace. Cathy Agriesti
