Elizabeth H. Schmidt "Liz", 79, of Victoria, Texas, passed away Wednesday, October 9, 2024, in Victoria. She was born February 11, 1945, in Leesville, Louisiana, to the late Ranzy Holloway and Tessie Holloway.
Family and friends will gather for visitation on Tuesday, October 15, 2024, from 9 AM to 9:30 AM, with a Holy Rosary to be prayed at 9:30 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church in Victoria, Texas. A Funeral Mass will follow at 10 AM at Holy Family Catholic Church.
Liz engaged in various hobbies, including sewing, cooking, flower gardening, playing cards with friends, and spending quality time with her dog, Lucy. Her journey began when she met her husband at a county fair in Sulphur, Louisiana, where he invited her to join him on a carnival ride. At that time, she was employed as a Southwestern Bell Operator. As they started their family, Liz supported George through college, and in 1974, they relocated to Port Lavaca when he accepted a position with Alcoa. Between 1977 and 1980, they lived in Guinea, West Africa, due to a transfer opportunity with Alcoa, before returning to Port Lavaca, where they resided until 2008 while continuing to raise their family. During this period, Liz contributed to the Calhoun County School District as a substitute teacher and school librarian. In 2008, they moved to Victoria to embrace retirement. Liz practiced her Catholic faith as a member of Our Lady of the Gulf in Port Lavaca from 1980 to 2008, later becoming a devoted member of Holy Family Catholic Church from 2008 to 2024, where she also participated in the Catholic Daughters Alter Society.
Leaving to cherish her memory, Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 56 years, George Schmidt; son, George J. Schmidt and wife Jill Schmidt; son, Charles A. Schmidt and wife Teresa Schmidt; sisters, Peggy and Louise; brother, Roger; and 5 grandchildren, Joanie, Laura, Braden, Emma and Kendall.
In addition to her parents, Elizabeth was preceded in death by her parents; brother, Sonny; sisters, Millie and Margie.
