Elizabeth Ilene Strable

Elizabeth Ilene Strable, 91, of Perry, Iowa, passed away peacefully on Monday, February 3rd, 2025. Ilene was born on September 4, 1933, in Winterset, Iowa, to Amos and Ladina Graspy. She was a woman who treasured her family more than anything else, always seeking to spend every moment she could with them. She was known for her love of cooking, her favorite beverage in hand, and a heart full of joy. Ilene's love for music was unmatched, but what truly set her apart was her undeniable passion for dancing. If you knew her, you knew she loved to dance!
Ilene enjoyed living on Lake Ponderosa for 40 years with her late husband, George Strable. She was a people person and loved entertaining large gatherings with family and friends. Ilene also enjoyed playing cards, going dancing with George, and camping out all summer. She was a hard worker, having worked at Kmart, and after retirement, continued to work at the fairgrounds and Adventureland. She swore by her doctor's order of rum & diet caffeine-free Pepsi for a long life!
Ilene is survived by her son, George (Sherri) Strable of Perry, Iowa, and daughter, Donna Kent of Pleasant Hill, Iowa. She was preceded in death by her parents, Amos, and Ladina Graspy; her husband, George Strable; and her children, Dorothy Wessel, Diane Wise, and Larry Graspy. Ilene's legacy lives on through her many grandchildren, great-grandchildren, and great-great-grandchildren, all of whom will forever hold her memory in their hearts. She will be deeply missed by her family and all who knew her, but her spirit will continue to dance in the hearts of those she loved.
A visitation will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 11th, at Sunset Memorial Chapel (7601 Fleur Drive, Des Moines, IA 50321), and following the visitation, there will be a funeral service. The committal service will be at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
