On Tuesday, the 18th of February, 2025, Elizabeth "Liz" Thompson (Katkics) of Aberdeen, New Jersey passed away after a courageous battle with ALS.
A lifelong resident of New Jersey, Liz was born May 28,1964 in Perth Amboy. She was raised in Carteret, before moving to Aberdeen, where she raised her own family.
Liz's smile lit up the room. Her risqué sense of humor, her vibrant personality, and having one of "those" faces, naturally drew others to her, especially if you snort laughed, like her. Anyone who knew Liz can attest to perfect strangers walking up to her and sharing their life story like they were old friends.
She was a fierce advocate for recognition of the sacrifices made by stay-at-home moms and just as forcefully defended women fighting to advance in the business world. This spurred her to create her own online space, "This Full House," where she shared her unique perspective on life through anecdotes and observations intertwined with a good dose of family history. Before the rise of Facebook, Twitter, or Instagram, Blogs were the place to be, and Liz built hers into one of the 50 most widely read blogs with readers on six continents.
Once the kids became more independent, Liz joined the remote work force before it was popular, working with women-focused media organizations like BlogHer, SheKnows, and TueNight.
In recent years, Liz added "Mimi" to her resume, a role she embraced with open arms. With our son and his wife both being active-duty military, Liz would drop everything at a moment's notice when deployments or life demanded extra hands for her grandbabies. Baby spamming her Instagram became her new favorite pastime.
Her mom fostered a love for cooking and baking from which Liz drew great pleasure. She loved preparing authentic Hungarian dishes and breads for friends and family. Liz's father imparted in her a love for theater, classical music, and opera. And she developed her own love for the easy listening songs of the 70's.
Throughout her life, Liz loved crafting. Her touch is evident in every corner of her home. More recently, she had taken up crocheting, lovingly creating special blankets for each of her granddaughters. When she wasn't crafting you could find her elbows deep in the dirt, tending her flower beds, or walking barefoot on the beach searching for sea glass (or mermaids).
While ALS may have stolen her from us far too soon, Liz leaves behind a wonderful legacy of a life lived to its fullest, shared laughter, especially at the hardest of times, and love above all else.
Liz is survived by her husband, Peter, their children, Holly (William) Alston, Heather Thompson, Glen (Lauren) Thompson, Hope Thompson and her fiancé, Justin Jacobs, granddaughters Evelyn, Audrey, & Tatum, Cheryl & John Gulish, Melisa Wells, and many relatives here as well as Austria and Hungary.
