Ellen A. Slack (nee Brown), age 93, formerly of Naperville, IL 1959-2017, passed away on Tuesday, April 2, 2024, at Tabor Hills Healthcare Facility in Naperville. She was born October 31, 1930, in Sioux City, IA.
Beloved wife of 71 years to John C. "Duke" Slack, whom she married November 29, 1952, loving mother of Kerry (Jim) Marrer of Oracle, AZ and Laurie (Jim) Deegan of Downers Grove, IL, adored grandmother of Meghan (Adam) Andrew, Sean (Megan Nelson) Marrer and Colin Marrer; Emmet, Bridget Deegan and the late Seamus Deegan, cherished great-grandmother of Lexi, Benjamin, Dominic and Maddox, devoted daughter of the late John and Agnes (nee Flatley) Brown, dear sister of Daniel J. Brown, Jane Bauer, and the late Jack, Mary, Jim, Kathleen, Tom, Joe and Pat, sister-in-law of Norma and Al Exner, fond aunt, great-aunt and friend of many.
Ellen spent her formative years growing up in Waukesha, WI, where she graduated from Waukesha High School in 1949. She went on to graduate from Marquette University Dental School in 1952 as a Dental Hygienist. Ellen worked as a Hygienist until moving to Illinois in 1953 following her husband's work, and subsequently to Naperville in 1959 where she and her husband were amongst the first parishioners at St. Raphael Catholic Church in Naperville.
In later years, Ellen volunteered as Picture Lady at St. Raphael School as well as being a Brownie and Girl Scout leader. She enjoyed her work as a volunteer with the Naperville Heritage Society, having been one of the charter members. Ellen enjoyed her many trips to the Chicago Art Museum of which she was a member for many years.
Ellen was an accomplished seamstress having made many garments for her two daughters as well as helping others with their sewing projects.
Ellen spent many weeks, summer and winter, at their lake home in Hayward, WI enjoying the company of her family and friends over a period of forty-five years.
The family would like to thank the staff, especially the nurses, at Tabor Hills HealthCare Facility for all their help during Ellen's later years.
A visitation will be held on Saturday, April 27, 2024, 9:30-11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel at Villa St. Benedict, 1920 Maple Ave., Lisle
A Mass of Christian Burial will follow Saturday, 11:00 AM in the Sacred Heart Monastery Chapel.
After the funeral mass, everyone is invited to join the family for a luncheon reception in the Villa St. Benedict Dining Room.
Inurnment: Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood, IL.
