Proverbs 3:5
"Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding."
Elma Jones (Mamae), 86 returned to her heavenly father on March 14, 2023, after a courageous battle with an illness. Her devotion to her family and her firm belief in God helped her through her bout, however she is now at peace.
Elma was born to the late Caroline Lewison, in Manchester Jamaica on May 28, 1936. She grew up with her uncle Clinton Thompson who she called brother because both mothers migrated to the US while they were infants so they both grew up as brother and sister in Jamaica.
At an early age she had a passion for sewing and music. She completed schooling at Broadleaf Primary Education in Manchester, Jamaica.
Elma has always been very active in the Church and enjoyed being around the people of God.
She married the late Clarence A. Jones in the late sixties. She migrated to the United States on February 28, 1972. She lived in Runyon Village, Bryant and Pelican Lake and was a mother to many on the camp by always encouraging the camp kids and babysitting numerous kids over the years. Elma and Clarence traveled often and enjoyed watching wrestling in-person or on TV.
While she was in Jamaica, she ran a small shop, a family business, in the Comfort District. She was also very active in the Broadleaf Moravian Church playing the organ and singing in the choir. She enjoyed church and being in the presence of God and it was essential to her being from an early age. She also enjoyed reading her bible daily. Once she migrated to the United States, she attended Church of God of Prophecy in
Pahokee, FL. She was a faithful member for over 30 plus years ending under the leadership of Bishop Ronald & Janett McFarlane. Once there was a change in leadership at that Church, she started attending Sonshine Family Ministries in Royal
Palm Beach, FL under the Bishop Ronald McFarlane's leadership again. She was very consistent with attending church services and being involved with many programs that the church was conducting. As long as she had a ride she was going to church. She enjoyed the fellowship of the Brothers and Sisters in Christ as they commuted weekly to service to Royal Palm Beach. Brother Noel Campbell made sure she had a ride every Sunday. Fellowshipping and traveling were very enjoyable for her. Every Sunday she looked forward to being in the company of Brother Noel and Sister Wiggan.
Once her husband, Clarence died in June 2007 she decided that she didn't want to get remarried and remained a widow to preserve the undying love she had for her late husband. Elma continued to live independently until she started having some health issues that prevented her from continuing to live on her own. She moved to Royal Palm Beach with her Son Mike & Daughter-in- Law, Jillian in 2016. The family relocated to
Port St Lucie, FL in October 2017.
As her health continued to decline, she was placed in the care of Palm Gardens Nursing Home in 2018 where she resided until her Father called her home on March 14, 2023.
