Elma Edna Schwartz Norris passed away on April 1, 2023 in San Antonio, Texas. She was born on April 26, 1929 in Dayton, Ohio to Henry Schwartz and Ethel Kercher Schwartz. Mrs. Norris was preceded in death by her beloved husband, Elwood "Woody" Norris. She is survived by her daughter Sandra Russell & husband Greg – their children: Christine M (Aubrey & Bryce), John M. and James K.; Son Richard Norris & wife Kayrn – their children: Jeffrey Norris & wife Karen (Brecken & Rygan) and Robert Ruff; Son Kerry Norris & wife Jane – their children: Aaron Norris (River, Onyx and Mazzy, Faith Watson & husband Michael – their children: (Marcella, Isabella, & Floyd) Jennifer Meils & husband Matt – their children: (Riley and Parker) and Christopher Lejarzar; Son Roger Norris & wife Romany as well as her cousin Opal Kepler, whom she considered her sister.
Just before graduating from Stivers High School, she took her first job working at the Dayton Court House as a stenographer. It was during this time that she met her future husband, Elwood. Their young family soon moved to Cincinnati, Ohio and then ultimately to San Antonio, Texas.
Once her children were old enough, she re-entered the work force, taking a job as Secretary with the North East Independent School District Central Offices. Shortly after, she took the position of Secretary to the Principle at the newly constructed Jackson Middle School. She loved her job there, as it allowed her to be with and help young people, which she truly loved.
She also enjoyed traveling. Visiting multiple destinations throughout the U.S. and Mexico, as well as trips to Europe and ocean Cruises.
When they became "empty nesters" they found some property and moved to the community of Center Point in their beloved Texas Hill Country! They designed their home from the ground up, to give them the home that would allow them to host family and friends. They soon joined the congregation of Center Point United Methodist Church. They truly cherished their time away from the hustle and bustle of city life.
