On May 7th, 2025, the world lost the most incredible, genuine man - the kind who laid every foundation of his family's life with unconditional love, strength, and pride.
Elmer Armstrong Field, 64, was a devoted husband and father who deeply loved his family and built a beautiful life around them from the ground up. Born in Cooperstown, New York on August 11, 1960, to parents Margaret Siegle and Martin Field, Elmer was the rock of his family, a generous and dependable man to his friends, a steadfast leader to his employees, and a true inspiration to his entire community. He had a work ethic of steel and at only 15 years of age while attending Canajoharie School, Elmer took his first job at Dygert Farms. The Dygert family and his experience at the farm changed the trajectory of his life in so many meaningful ways.
In 1981, Elmer married the love of his life and best friend, Mary, and over the last 44 years they've created so much together - a strong family, thriving business, and an eternal bond that transcends time. A decade after they wed, they started AJB Contracting in their hometown of Palatine Bridge, and Elmer quickly evolved into a visionary in business. With a humble start in pressure washing, Elmer expanded the business into the most respected and sought-after contracting company in all of upstate New York - with only his two bare hands, steady spirit, and enough grit to fill a fleet of trucks.
Elmer leaves behind his loving wife Mary Field; five children Amanda (Bryan) Kelly, Josh (Victoria) Field, Brittany Field, Adam (Jamie) Field, and Jaime Field; ten grandchildren Kaylie, Khloe, Ryder, Cole, Bodhi, Wyatt, Jackson, Colton, Morgan and Bella; his mother Margaret Siegle; his brother Marty Field; his niece and goddaughter Abby Field; and his brother-in-law Tom Pliszek.
He is preceded in death by his father Martin Field, brother Billy Field, and sisters Viola Pliszek and Rosemary Reese.
Elmer's most cherished and proudest moments were the ones spent with his grandchildren. He was the best Papa, friend, and family man you could ever know. Elmer will be dearly missed, but his legacy will live on in the hearts of the many people who loved him dearly.
Friends are invited to visit on Thursday, May 15, 2025, from 11am to 12pm at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Home, 69 Otsego Street, Canajoharie, NY 13317. A service of remembrance will be held at 12pm. Following the service, everyone is invited to join the family at the Canajoharie Country Club for continued fellowship and refreshments.

Mary, I am so sorry to hear of Elmer´s passing. I didn´t know him long, just thru our chats at the casino but I enjoyed our time together there and getting to know him and you. Please know my thoughts and prayers are with you and your family during this very difficult time.

I remember Elmer mostly as a young boy. Always pleasant. He certainly continued on to become a very respectable man. God bless his family as well as him.
