Elouise, 98, was born in Sedgewicksville, Missouri. She grew up in the General Store owned by her father. As a child she learned to work with people and share her love. She married her childhood sweeheart Billy Hahs. They shared 72 years of marriage.
Elouise and her husband, the Reverend Doctor Billy Hahs, served several churches in Southern Illinois. Elouise brought grace and love to each church they served. Their final appointment was to First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon. After retiring, they continued to serve Mt. Vernon First United Methodist Church.
Elouise was very active in United Methodist Women's ministries, serving on the national level, the conference level and in the local church. She led the School of Christian Mission, was elected Conference UMW President, and served on the Women's Division. Serving others was the joy of her life. She was a member of PEO for over 50 years.
Elouise is survived by her sons, Billy Gene Hahs, Jr. and wife Sharon and the Reverend Doctor James Lynn Hahs and wife Donna; seven grandchildren, Cara Elouise Hahs, Ona Hahs and husband Daniel Tenny, Sarah Day and husband Charles, Nathan Hahs, Seth Hahs and wife Leslie, Jonathan Decker and wife Andrea, Joseph Hahs; and sixteen great grandchildren, Evan Day, Brady Decker, Luke Hahs, Claire Hahs, John Hahs, Barnabas Hahs, Virginia Hahs, Anne Hahs, James Hahs, Felix Hahs, Madeleine Hahs, Tristan Hahs, Dylan Maxfield, Paige Maxfield, Simon Hahs-Tenny, and Nora Hahs-Tenny.
Elouise was preceded in death by her parents and her husband.
A Visitation will be held Saturday, January 3, 2026 from 10:00 am to 12:00 pm at First United Methodist Church in Mount Vernon, Illinois. A Funeral Service will begin at 12:00 pm with Reverend Victor Long officiating. Internment will follow at Mount Vernon Memorial Gardens in Woodlawn, Illinois. Memorials may be made in Elouise's honor to First United Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, Illinois.
