Elsie E. Dummermuth, age 91 of New Philadelphia passed away Saturday, January 3, 2026, in Park Village Health Care at Dover following a period of declining health.
Born at Dover, on March 23, 1934, Elsie was a daughter of the late Ervin O. and Gertrude M. (Zedi) Geib. She was a 1952 graduate of New Philadelphia High School. On February 21, 1954, she married Homer Dummermuth, Jr. and together they enjoyed 64 years of marriage before his passing in October of 2018.
Elsie was employed at the Fairview Dairy, the Puritan Laundry, and New Philadelphia City Schools, where she worked as secretary at West Elementary School. She enjoyed reading, listening to music, and baking. She was also a fan of the Cleveland Guardians and Cavaliers.
She is survived by her children, Debbie (Bill) Immel of New Philadelphia and James (Cynthia) Dummermuth of Columbus; five grandchildren, Jeremy (Heidi) Immel, Brooke (Chad) Roth both of New Philadelphia, Christian Dummermuth, Rajani Dummermuth, and Hunter Dummermuth of Columbus; great-grandchildren, Bella Immel, Brady Immel, Peyton Murphy and Paige Murphy; step-great-granddaughter, Hayley (Isaiah) Mayle; sister, Margaret Stein; brother, Glenn (Patricia) Geib; and numerous nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents and husband, Elsie was preceded in death by a son, David Dummermuth; and sisters, Delores Farnsworth, Connie Kaser, and Glenda Green.
The family will receive guests on Thursday, January 8, 2026, from 10:00 to 12:00 PM in Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Rd SW, New Philadelphia. A service celebrating Elsie’s life will be led by Rev. Dr. Tom Hendershot beginning at 12:00 PM. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. A meal and fellowship will follow in the church social hall.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests memorial contributions in Elsie’s name be directed to Jerusalem Church, 1417 Stonecreek Road SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663 or to Ohio’s Hospice, 716 Commercial Avenue SW, New Philadelphia, Ohio 44663.
