Mrs. Elsie Mercer, 94, of Dyer, Tennessee passed away on Tuesday, August 19, 2025, at Jackson Madison County Hospital. Funeral services for Mrs. Mercer will be conducted on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at 3PM at the Dyer chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home with Bro. John Coleman officiating. Interment will follow in Oakwood Cemetery in Dyer, TN.
She was born April 11, 1931, in Perry County, TN; the daughter of the late William Enos and Irma Churchwell. She worked at Brownshoe Company in Dyer for 40+ years. She was the oldest member of Clear Creek Baptist Church in Dyer, TN.
She is survived by her son, David Mercer (Jenny); two granddaughters, Alisha Owens (Brian), Meagan Hurley (Phillip); four great-grandchildren, Anna Belle Hurley, Avery Owens, Brady Owens, Andrew Hurley; several nieces and nephews; and one sister, Ima Griggs. She was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Rex Mercer; brother, Roger Churchwell; and two sisters, Sue Belew, and Reba Adams.
Those to serve as pallbearers are Brian Owens, Phillip Hurley, Albert Simpson, Arnold Simpson, Larry Belew, and Gary Selph.
The family will receive friends from 1PM – 3PM, on Saturday, August 23, 2025, at the Dyer chapel of Karnes & Son Funeral Home. Karnes & Son Funeral Home is honored to serve the family of Mrs. Elsie Mercer.
