Obituary published on Legacy.com by Jernigan-Warren Funeral Home from Nov. 2 to Nov. 5, 2025.
Elton "Wayne" Long Jr., 63, of
Fayetteville, NC, passed away peacefully into his Heavenly home on October 31, 2025, surrounded by his family in love. Wayne was born in
Fayetteville, NC, on April 4, 1962, to Elton "Wayne" Long Sr. and Evelyn Bryant Chapman.
Wayne grew up and lived in Fayetteville all of his life and was a graduate of South View High School, Class of 1980. While in high school, Wayne worked as a delivery boy for Bordeaux Drug, where he was impacted and inspired by the owners and lifelong friends, Alec and Ozeda Clelland, to become a pharmacist. He pursued his Doctorate in Pharmacy and graduated from Campbell University's charter class of pharmacy in 1990.Wayne met his "beautiful bride," as he always called her, through dear mutual friends, and they married in 1992. Throughout Wayne's pharmacy career of over 35 years, he was blessed to make many lifelong friends at the hospitals and the many drug stores where he worked. He was a devoted pharmacist and truly enjoyed allowing the Lord to use him to help others through his work. Wayne was committed and unwavering in providing for his loved ones and in helping those in need. He loved his family deeply and was extremely proud to be "G-Pa" to his precious Sadie Rae and Hayes. Wayne was passionate about his country and was a patriot at heart. He enjoyed deer hunting, watching movies, tending to his chickens, singing to the Beach Boys at the top of his lungs, and spending time at Holden Beach. He shared his sense of humor freely and often. Wayne lived a life full of accomplishments and blessed others through his generosity, but he believed and we know that none of his earthly works are what led him to where he is today. Most importantly, Wayne loved and trusted God and knew with certainty that through salvation, he was a child of His. Looking at Wayne's life, we are reminded that life here is not promised, that the dash between is momentary, and that this life is only preparation for eternity.
He is preceded in death by his precious stepfather, Kenneth Adams, and his beloved father-in-law, Butch Murphy. Wayne is survived by his devoted mother, Evelyn Bryant Chapman of
Fayetteville, NC and his father, Elton "Wayne" Long Sr., and wife, Lillian, of Sanger, CA.
Wayne is also survived by his "beautiful bride" of 33 years, Tonette, of the home; his son, Trei and wife, Michaela, of Wade, NC; his daughter, Paige, of the home; his grandchildren, Sadie Rae and Hayes Long, whom he adored deeply. He is also survived by his grand-dog Sassie May; his "favorite" mother-in-law, Shirley Murphy, of
Fayetteville, NC; his sister, Cathy Carriere of
Fayetteville, NC, nieces, Diane Koelle of Rock Hill, SC, and Jessica Wezyk of Charlotte, NC; and great-nephews, Lucas Koelle, Christian Koelle, and Ashton Bruce. Wayne's memory also lives on in the hearts of his aunts, uncles, cousins, and dear friends.
Wayne's family expresses their heartfelt thanks and appreciation for all the love, prayers, support, and visits received during the past weeks and during this difficult time.
