Emory Apple Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Pearson Funeral Home on Jan. 8, 2026.
Emory O'Shee Apple, born February 22, 1937, passed away peacefully on January 7, 2026 with her family by her side.
Emory was born in Mobile, Alabama to Patrick Clifford and Mary Frances Rudisill O'Shee. After moving to Missouri and West Virginia during World War II, her family settled in Birmingham, AL. Emory graduated from Ramsey High School and Mary Baldwin College. While at Mary Baldwin, she met James Apple and they married a week after they graduated from their respective colleges.
Emory worked as a teacher and a computer assistant while supporting her husband through law school. After moving to Paducah and Frankfort, they settled in Louisville. Wherever she lived, Emory was known for her vivid storytelling, quick wit, and remarkable ability to turn any conversation into a moment of connection. That gift was shaped by a life of curiosity and courage: she traveled into Soviet Russia during the height of the Cold War, lived in Scotland for a short time, and relished sharing these experiences with others. A natural host, she loved gathering people around her table, welcoming Rotary exchange students, and bringing the wider world into her home through stories drawn from her travels. Always inquisitive, she would take the unchartered path to see what discoveries awaited. A passionate reader, gardener, antiquarian, upholsterer, and thrifter, Emory delighted in learning and discovery. She was an active member of Second Presbyterian Church, serving as president of the Women of the Church in 1992, the UofL Woman's Club, and a deeply valued friend and neighbor. After raising her two children, she went to work as a tour guide for a friend who ran a tour company, welcoming visitors to her adopted home state. Later in life, she volunteered for AARP helping senior citizens with their taxes. Emory was predeceased by her parents, Patrick Clifford O'Shee Sr. and Mary Frances O'Shee, and her brother, Patrick C. O'Shee Jr. She is survived by her daughter, Meredith Apple Lambe (Thomas), her son Miles Stewart Apple (Sandy), her grandchildren, Philip, Marshall Wilson and Malcolm Gault and Eloise, Stewart and Iris Emory Apple, and her niece, Betsy O'Shee Nelson (Scott).
The family wishes to thank all the attentive caregivers on Maple Lane at The Pinnacle for the love and attention they gave our mother this past year.
A celebration of life will be held at Second Presbyterian Church, 3701 Old Brownsboro Road, on Saturday, January 10 at 2:00 p.m. with a short reception immediately following. The family asks in lieu flowers that a donation be made in her memory to the charity of choice. Pearson's Funeral Home has been entrusted with the arrangements.
