Emilie Wierman Carpenter passed away March 1, 2025. She was born on March 8,1934 in Philadelphia, PA to Victor and Rachel Wierman. She grew up in Bryn Mawr, PA attending the Agnes Irwin School and graduating in 1952 from the Ashley Hall School in Charleston, SC. It was in that same year that John Carpenter's name appeared on Emilie Wierman's dance card. Totally smitten, they were married on November 7, 1953. They were a dashing couple and were totally devoted to one another until John's death in 2019.
Emilie and John created a beautiful life together in Mannington, NJ living at Meadowview Farm. They raised their four children there, hosted lovely dinner parties, held gatherings at their lean-to on the meadow and had numerous family get togethers, most notably the much beloved Christmas Eve Dinner. Emilie, to the joy of all, would have written her Christmas Eve Poem to recite after dinner. Fond memories were also created in the Adirondacks where John and Emilie would welcome their children every August.
Inspired by her deep faith, Emilie was committed to service to others. She was a founding member of Woodland Country Day School, served on the boards at the Salem Memorial Hospital, the United Way, the Mannington Township Planning Board, the Ausable Club and was a moderator at the Baptist Church of Woodstown. Volunteer activities also included serving as an aid at the Salem Hospital and delivering food for Meals on Wheels. In acknowledgement of her years of service to the community, she was presented with the Crystal Rose Award for Lifetime Achievement by the Salem County Chamber of Commerce.
A day well spent for Emilie would have included gardening, reading, a Friday afternoon at the Philadelphia Orchestra, lunch with her Irwin's girls, supporting her children and grandchildren on and off the sidelines and any time with John.
Emilie was preceded in death by her husband John and her sister Peggy Henrie. She is survived by her daughter Peggy Moeckel (Thorpe); sons: John III (Donna), Preston (Molly) and Andrew (Christine); grandchildren: Emilie Bolduc (Charles), Alexander Moeckel (Julia), Benjamin (Victoria), Margaret Shafer (Lamar), John IV (Mairead), Elizabeth Foley (Patrick), Andrew and Wilson; 11 great grandchildren and her sister Susanna Prause (Kent).
The family wishes to express their gratitude for the extraordinary and compassionate care that she received at Friends Village in Woodstown, NJ.
A memorial service will be held on March 15, 2025 at 11:00 AM at Immanuel Episcopal Church on the Green, 50 Market Street, New Castle, DE 19720. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Alzheimer's Association (www.alz.org). www.adamsfuneralhome.org

I'm so sorry to hear about your Mom. She volunteered at Salem Hospital when I worked in the Emergency Room, she was always friendly and willing to do whatever she could to help
the nursing staff. She will be missed by many. My condolences to her family.
