Emily Jo Brenneman passed away on Tuesday, June 13, 2023 surrounded by her loved ones, after a brave three-year battle with cancer.
Born October 7, 1959 to the late Donald and Olive (Troy) Brenneman. Emily was named after her maternal grandparents, Emil and Josephine Troy. She was also preceded in death by her paternal grandparents, Chester and Aileen Brenneman, her sister Maureen and two brothers-in-law, Martin Barrett and Michael Rowan.
Growing up in Monaca, Emily attended St. John the Baptist School and was a graduate of Monaca High School, class of 1978. Her happy childhood was filled with love and support from family, friends, teachers, and neighbors. She enjoyed her college years and excelled in her studies. She received a Bachelor of Arts degree from the University of Pittsburgh with a major in Chinese, and later a Master of Business Administration from Ohio University.
Emily went on to dedicate her expertise in service to our country, holding several positions of importance in Federal government throughout her 40-year career. Her family took great pride in her achievements in Washington. Yet, all the while, she remained exceptionally devoted to her family and friends in Beaver County and beyond. She regularly traveled home to Monaca to celebrate holidays and special occasions, and took great pleasure in hosting family members in our nation's capital.
Emily held a deep appreciation for art and music, a passion for flowers, and an encyclopedic knowledge of classic films. However, Emily's wealth of knowledge, remarkable memory, strength of spirit, and sweet smile were just a few of the gifts she shared so generously with those around her.
Throughout her recent struggle, Emily received loving care in the home of her nephew, Jonathan Hudson and his wife, Tammi (Hutman), and their children Abi, Brady, and Brennen in Center Township.
She leaves behind three sisters and two brothers: Donna Hudson of Beaver; Jeanne Barrett (Edward Smith) of Saint Petersburg, FL; Ilene Rowan of Monaca; Robert Brenneman (Heather) of Mineral, VA; Donald Brenneman (Deborah) of Springboro, OH; 12 nieces and nephews; 15 great nieces and nephews; and two first cousins, Pam Fronko of Monaca; Jim Brenneman (Linda) of Monaca.
Friends will be received at SIMPSON FUNERAL & CREMATION SERVICES, 1119 Washington Avenue, Monaca on Thursday, June 15 from 5pm to 7 pm followed by a celebration of life at 7 pm.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society.
