SURGOINSVILLE – Emily Michelle Hutson, 42, went home to be with the Lord on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, at her residence, following a courageous battle with cancer.
Emily was born in Kingsport, TN, to her parents, Mike and Coleen (Gray) Hutson. She was a lifelong resident of Hawkins County and a proud graduate of Volunteer High School, Class of 2000. Emily accepted Jesus as her Savior during a mission trip to Memphis, TN.
She was a cheerleader at both Church Hill Middle School and Volunteer High School, known for her athleticism and her signature 13 back handsprings. Her impressive gymnastics skills earned her the nickname "Monkey."
Emily worked at Walmart and later at News America Marketing. She was a true friend to all who knew her-always ready to lend a hand and share a smile and a laugh. She joked with her family that as she was always late to everything that she would even be late for her own funeral. As a devoted mother to three boys, Emily embraced every moment of motherhood, and her sons brought out the fun-loving tomboy in her. She was just as comfortable cheering from the sidelines as she was joining in on their adventures.
She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Bill and Lura (Christian) Gray, Garland and Stella (Benton) Hutson; and a special uncle, Jerry Gray.
She is survived by her loving husband, Tommy Elliott; her sons, Lucas Case, Kaleb Elliott, and Elijah Elliott; her parents, Mike and Coleen (Gray) Hutson; her brother, Michael (Mindy) Hutson; and niece, Mia Hutson. She is also survived by special aunts, Nadine Gray and Kathy (Tim) Nelson; mother- and father-in-law, Diane and James King; sisters-in-law, Crystal Branson and Ashley King; and many beloved cousins.
A graveside service will be held at 1:00 PM on Thursday, May 8, 2025, at McPheeters Bend Community Cemetery with Rev. Mark Roberts and Rev. Tim Nelson officiating. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at the funeral home by 12:00 PM to go in procession to the cemetery. Pallbearers will be family and friends.
In lieu of flowers or prepared food, Emily's family requests that canned food be donated in her memory. Donations can be delivered to her parents' home or to Johnson-Arrowood Funeral Home. To plant a beautiful memorial tree in memory of Emily, please visit our Tree Store.
