Emma Barr Obituary

Obituary published on Legacy.com by Mills Funeral Home, Peters & Murray Chapel - Grand Ledge on Dec. 20, 2025.
Emma Gene Barr, of Dewitt, MI, passed away peacefully on December 16, 2025, at the age of 82 in Lansing, MI. She was born on August 20, 1943, in Grand Rapids, MI, daughter of Anthony and Adeline (Vandermolen) Kohlhouse.
Emma's journey as an educator began after she received her master's degree in elementary education from Michigan State University, a testament to her lifelong commitment to learning and personal growth. She brought her passion for knowledge into the classroom, where she inspired countless students over the years. Emma's exceptional contributions to education were recognized when she was honored with the prestigious Who's Who of Michigan Teachers award.
Family was the cornerstone of Emma's world. She is survived by her loving daughter, Mary Vrabel; her cherished grandson, Corey Weathers; her son-in-law, Matthew Weathers; her sister, Mary Brzozwsky; and her brothers-in-law, Stan Brzozwsky, Tom Eastman, and Wes Wolosecky. Additionally, Emma's life was brightened by the presence of her many nieces and nephews. Emma was preceded in death by her parents, Anthony and Adeline (Vandermolen) Kohlhouse, her sisters, Tammy Wolosecky and Julie Eastman, and son-in-law Chuck Vrabel.
Emma's interests painted the portrait of a woman who embraced the richness of life with enthusiasm and joy. She was an avid reader, always keen on discussing the latest book that captured her imagination or the current events that stirred her thoughts. Her love for traveling was realized through the many cruises she embarked on. Emma found pleasure in the simple joys of dining at restaurants, where she appreciated good food and great company. Her sharp mind was often at play with a game of blackjack or a challenging sudoku puzzle. But above all, the time spent with her grandson, Corey, was amongst her most precious moments.
As we bid her farewell, we celebrate the remarkable woman she was and the indelible mark she leaves on the hearts of those who knew her. A celebration of life will be held at a later date. For online condolences please visit www.millsfuneral.com
