Emma Lou Scheuermann passed away peacefully at Touro Infirmary on Monday, May 12, 2025 following complications from a decade-long battle with cancer.
A lifelong New Orleanian, Emma was a light to everyone she met. She was born on September 29, 1961 to the late Louis "Rags" Scheuermann and Maureen O'Donnell Scheuermann. Loving sister to Maureen, Joe (Shelly) and Ed (Stephanie). Beloved aunt and "Emmy" to Tyler, Nataly, Parker (Kelley), and Peyton Scheuermann. She is also survived by her cousins Kathy Barbazon (Clem) and Karen Meyer (Gordon) and countless friends and neighbors.
Emma attended St. Francis of Assisi School and later Redemptorist High School. She spent most of her adult life caring for others and sharing her light, love, and hospitality with many. She was a familiar face at "Rags" Scheuermann Field at Kirsch-Rooney Stadium, a dedicated volunteer who endeared herself to local baseball players and fans, creating lifelong memories and cherished friendships. For the past five decades, she was a constant fan of her father's and brother's Delgado Community College Baseball teams, supporting the Dolphins on and off the field in whatever way possible. During the summer months, she served as a pillar of the New Orleans Boosters baseball organization, spearheading fundraising efforts and logistics for the franchise's annual trip to the AAABA National Tournament in Johnstown, Pennsylvania, where Emma was also recognized as an Honorary Citizen.
Deeply devoted to her Catholic faith, Emma was a parishioner of St. Francis of Assisi Parish where she was involved in organizing many events and ministries, including the parish's annual Thanksgiving Food Drive and Christmas Angel Tree Project. She received the prestigious Order of St. Louis Medallion for services to the parish and the Archdiocese of New Orleans. She was also named Volunteer of the Year for the Sisters of the Living Word. She served as an ambassador for her city, whether working the 1984 World's Fair, cheering on the Saints, catching countless parades, or planning fundraisers and events for a variety of causes.
The family wishes to express its profound thanks to Dr. Joan Cheng and the physicians, nurses, and staff of Touro Infirmary for their care and compassion over the years. A special thank you to "Emma's Team" of family, friends, Patton Street neighbors, players, and everyone who supported her throughout her journey. Her courage, hope, and undaunted spirit serves as an inspiration to everyone who had the privilege to call her a friend.
All are invited to attend a Celebration of Emma's Life on Monday, May 19 at St. Francis of Assisi Church, 611 State Street, New Orleans, Louisiana 70115. Visitation will begin at 9am followed by a Funeral Mass at noon. Interment will follow at St. Patrick's Cemetery #3. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to The Tradition Campaign for Delgado Athletics, 615 City Park Avenue, Bldg 20, New Orleans, Louisiana 70119 or The New Orleans Boosters ([email protected]).

I am so very sorry for your tremendous loss. Emma was one of the sweetest ladies I´ve ever had the pleasure of knowing. She was totally and completely a loving, kind, compassionate, caring, and certainly, God loving lady with whom will be sorely missed by many.
She is in Jesus´ loving arms now, no more pain and suffering. God bless her.

What a blessing Emma was to so many people. She was kind, compassionate, a friend. Our love of baseball was a clear bond. She was there with Rags when I covered games and played at Kirsch-Rooney as well. She was always there for Joe and with the Dolphins and the Boosters. As a woman of faith, I trust she is at peace, no more pain, with Jesus in eternity, reunited with mom and dad. As such, she hit a home run, as she did in life. May the Lord truly bless the Scheuermann family.
