Emmett Thurston Kidd, Jr., 89, of Lynchburg, Virginia passed away on Tuesday, August 13, 2024. He was the son of the late Emmett Thurston Kidd, Sr. and Lillian May Wright Kidd. He was preceded in death by his loving wife of forty-nine years, Mary Margaret DeJarnette Kidd.

Emmett was a 1954 graduate of E.C. Glass High School, and after many years of service, he retired from C & P Telephone Company. He was a member of Calvary Baptist Church, where he enjoyed singing with The Calvarymen.

He is survived by two daughters, Teresa Schmitt (Marshall), Karen Ponish (John); five grandchildren, Jason Schmitt (Amanda), Jennifer Schmitt, Kristin Trick (Danny), Haden Ponish (Katelyn), Kaitlin Collins (Joseph); two great-granddaughters, Nora Schmitt, Brie Trick; and a special friend, Shirley Beahm.

A visitation will be held on Sunday, August 18, 2024, from 4:00 PM to 6:00 PM at Tharp Funeral Home in Lynchburg, Virginia. A funeral service will be held on Monday, August 19, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Tharp Funeral Home, with Dr. Louis Beckwith officiating. Interment will follow at Fort Hill Memorial Park. Memorial contributions may be made to Calvary Baptist Church 20597 Timberlake Road Lynchburg, Virginia 24502.
