His second birthday was celebrated on the Red Nation Sundance Caravan in California. Eric shared the same birthday as AIM leaders Chief Leonard Crow Dog and Carter Camp.
Eric was the first grandson and first great grandson in his family. He was deeply loved by his grandmother Betty, great grandparents Ted Taylor and Ann Flower and grandparents Pat and Jerry Roy. His Grandpa Jerry gave him the nickname "Zoom Zoom", "Zoom" stayed with him throughout his life.
In 1979, Eric moved with his mother to Flandreau, SD. He attended Flandreau Public School and graduated from Flandreau Indian School in 1994. Eric attended the esteemed Oscar Howe Summer Art Institute in 1993 and 1994, his favorite class was Art. Eric became an excellent artist. He was employed at the Royal River Casino, First American Mart, FSST Tribal Health Clinic and most recently at the Hunkake Café in Flandreau.
Eric met Dionne Crawford in 2006 and started a family together in Sisseton, SD. In 2007, Eric and Dionne welcomed their first child, Maya Isabella and in 2009 they welcomed their son, River Delray. During this time, Eric sundanced four years at Crow Dog's Paradise. He attended Sisseton Wahpeton College and achieved an Associate's Degree in Business Administration with a 3.75 GPA. In 2019, Eric was diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic cancer. The doctors informed Eric he had three weeks to live, advising him to get his affairs in order. His response to the doctors was that he going to fight and beat cancer because he had two children, he wasn't ready to leave them. For over a grueling year, Eric underwent experimental chemotherapy and immunotherapy, making this the most difficult period of his life. Eric's traditional beliefs and medicines, the Canupa and his children were his strength and will to live. Eric received his Dakota name, Sitomini Ya Wayankapi during this time. On December 21, 2021, Eric was declared cancer-free. Since early childhood, Eric suffered from Asthma. As a result of his sickness, chemo and immunotherapy, his asthma severely progressed and led to many trips to the ER and was a contributing factor in his passing.
