Eric Musgjerd Obituary

Eric was born in Anchorage, Alaska, and lived in Arizona, Alabama, Norway, and Nebraska. He graduated from Plattsmouth High School and received his BSBA from Creighton University and MBA from University of Nebraska Omaha. He was employed with Swanson Corp, Mutual of Omaha, Commercial Federal Bank, and for the last 13 years at First National Bank of Omaha as Vice President of Commercial Real Estate Lending. Eric was an avid runner and bicyclist and competed in events nationally and locally. He also volunteered as a girls basketball coach and served as Treasurer for St. Mark Lutheran Church and Burke Band Boosters. He volunteered for over 10 years with the Greater Omaha YMCA and in 2010 served as Chief Volunteer Officer, Chairman of the Board, and chief of the search committee for the YMCA CEO. Eric's Christian faith and his family were the core of his life.
He is survived by his wife of 23 years, Karen (Iseminger) Musgjerd; daughters, Kaia and Kelsey; parents, William and Judith Musgjerd; sisters, Kathy Musgjerd, Susan (Lee) Knapp, and Betsy (Brian) Sittig; and had close relationships with aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces and nephews.

Karen and Family, I am so sorry to hear of Eric's passing and your loss. We both worked for David Gunter at Commercial Federal and Eric, always caring,knew that I might be interested in a new company knowing that CFB may be purchased. He was instrumental in my moving to a new company. Eric and I were alot alike, both being avid coaches of youth sports and being involved with the YMCA. I am so sorry for your loss as Eric will be missed by all. Eric was a good friend and he will always have a place in my heart. God bless to you and your family and be strong as Eric would have it no other way.

Karen - I'm not sure if you remember me, but I worked with Eric at Mutual of Omaha. Along with some co-workers, Eric & I played in an intramural men's basketball league. I've just recently learned of Eric's fight with cancer. I'm saddened to learn of Eric's passing. Our prayers go out to you & your family. David H. Craft

Karen and girls....I am sorry. My husband passed away with a similar illness as did my son. We will always wonder why, but we realize there is no more suffering now and they have gone home to be with their Lord. We must always remember whose we are. They are gone, but never, ever forgotten. May God comfort you and the girls for Eric will be sorely missed. A wonderful father, and husband he was while he shared his life with you.

I had just been thinking about you on Sunday, Oct.6, and the next day Rod texted me that Eric was not well. Someone once told me that if you think about someone and you aren't sure why they have come to your mind, you should pray for them and whatever circumstances they may be going through. I prayed for you on Sunday. I love you, miss you, and am so deeply sorry for your loss. I thought of Eric just this year when doing a science experiment with my students. He and that Draper kid??? left me a penny with ketchup on top as a top as a tip at BJ's(former A&W). Have you seen what ketchup does to a penny? He had such a great sense of humor! Love and prayers to you and your family.

I have very fond childhood memories of spending time with the entire Musgjerd family, and that of course includes Eric. I distinctly remember a Peter Frampton poster that he had in his room. I thought he was so cool because of that! Somehow, he "tolerated" all us girls. He obviously grew up to be a wonderful man, and I know all of you will miss him terribly. I hope the many memories you have of him will provide some measure of comfort. I am thinking of all of you and sending love.

I had the honor of graduating from PHS with Eric in 1981! I have fond memories of him from those days. I know Eric fought a hard fight and now he is Eternally cancer free! Blessings of courage, peace and strength to the Musgjerd family at this time!
