Eric Alan Rice
March 13, 1964-September 30, 2024
Eric Alan Rice, age 60, of Shingle Springs passed away on September 30, 2024. He was survived by his wife Riesa, his 3 sons, Jacob (Ashley), Jared and Zach, and his 3 grandchildren, Isabella, Charlotte and Kolby. He will be lovingly remembered by his parents, Lynn and Olis Kendrick and Darrol and Kate Rice, his brothers Don Kendrick (Traci), Scott Tyler (Grace) and sister Kimberly Hennings (Scott), sister-in-law Lisa and many aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, friends and coworkers. He was predeceased by his brother Monte Rice (2013).
Eric grew up in Orangevale and Shingle Springs and graduated from Rio Linda High School. He served in the US Navy from 1983 to 1987 aboard the USS Truxtun and the USS Enterprise as a radioman. He then worked at VSP for 32 years as a business analyst.
Eric was an avid backpacker and did many trips to Yosemite, Desolation Wilderness and other areas in northern California. He also enjoyed fishing and camping with his brother Monte and his sons and his annual fishing trips in earlier years with his friend Brent to French Meadows.
Eric loved to play cribbage (the Rice family game) with his brother Monte, his sons, his nephew Andrew and niece Leanna and other family and friends. He enjoyed watching the 49ers (when they were winning)! He also enjoyed annual trips to Disneyland with his family. In most recent years, his greatest joy was spending time with his grandchildren and teaching them how to play cribbage.
In lieu of flowers, donations to The Gideons International would be appreciated.
There will be a celebration of life for Eric on November 30, 2024 at 11:00 a.m. at Foothills Church, 2380 Merrychase Drive, Cameron Park, CA.
