Erica (Ricky) Katlyn Flanary, 23, of Leander, TX passed away suddenly on September 6th, 2022. Erica was born in Austin, TX to Calvin Edward Flanary and Beatrice Jaramillo on June 30th, 1999.
Erica was raised in Round Rock, TX, and attended Wells Branch, Deepwood, and Brushy Creek Elementary Schools, Cedar Valley Middle School, and McNeil High School. Erica began cheering while attending Cedar Valley and cheered for the McNeil Mavericks as part of the varsity squad from 9th to 11th grade. During her senior year, Erica was an athletic trainer. After graduating from McNeil High School in 2017, she went on to attend the University of North Texas as an Art History major.
In 2020, Erica moved to Leander, TX. Erica expanded her passion for art into creating intricate letters to hundreds of pen pals across the world. These letters were vibrant and personalized to each individual-perfectly customized to reflect both the recipient and Erica. She also had a passion for music, starting with Taylor Swift and boy bands, like One Direction and 5 SOS. This eventually evolved into love and extreme loyalty to several Korean pop (K-pop) groups (BTS, TXT and Kep1er), and an extraordinary collection of K-pop albums and memorabilia.
Erica's love of collecting didn't stop there. Erica also had an abundance of Squishmallows, and a stationery collection that would rival any stationery store. This hobby turned from a passion into entrepreneurship as her collection expanded into the thousands of items she used to personalize her handwritten letters. Erica was also an advocate for human rights and women's rights and cared deeply about bringing awareness to mental health issues.
Erica was also an avid cat lover and created a bond with every cat she encountered-whether it was a stray cat in the Lowe's Garden Center, the cats of Hickory Street in Denton, or the many neighborhood cats she made friends with throughout the years. Although she loved all cats, Erica had a special connection with her beloved pet, Nani, and her cat "nephew", Jerry.
Erica is preceded in death by her father Calvin "Eddie" Edward Flanary; her uncle Jeffrey Flanary; maternal grandparents, Jose and Margarita Jaramillo; and paternal grandparents, Andrew Jackson Flanary Sr. and Celia Martin Kelly.
Erica is survived by her mother Beatrice Jaramillo; her brothers, Andrew Flanary (Allyson) and Shane Flanary (Rachel); and her sisters, Megan Flanary and Emily Flanary (Justin Dube); and many, many friends.
A visitation will take place on Monday, September 12th, 2022 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Tuesday, September 13th, 2022 at Beck Funeral Home in Cedar Park, TX with interment to follow at Cedar Park Cemetery.
In remembrance of Erica we ask you to consider making a monetary donation to NAMI for those who may need mental healthcare and support. Home | NAMI: National Alliance on Mental Illness
