Erick R. Quintanilla Orantes, 27, of Greeley, Colorado, passed away on May 9, 2025. Born on November 16, 1997, in El Salvador, Erick brought warmth, laughter, and light into the lives of all who knew him.
Erick grew up in Colorado, where he attended Greeley West High School and Glenwood Springs High School. His dedication and passion for learning led him to the University of Colorado Boulder, where he earned his bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering. He went on to work as a roadway engineer at Kiewit, where his talent, creativity, and commitment were deeply valued.
Erick was endlessly curious and had a true zest for life. He was most at home in the great outdoors, and he found joy and peace in nature. Hiking Colorado's 14ers became one of his greatest passions, and he made it a personal goal to visit every national park in the United States. He carried his camera with him on every journey, capturing the majesty of the mountains and landscapes that inspired him. Through his photographs, he shared the wonder he saw in the world with others.
In addition to his love of nature, Erick had a deep and soulful connection to music. He was a gifted musician who found expression through playing the piano and other instruments, as well as through singing. Music was his refuge, his joy, and a way he connected with those he loved. Erick was a kind, selfless, and genuine soul. He lived with compassion, humility, and purpose. He showed up for the people in his life without hesitation and gave of himself freely - whether through a warm smile, a helping hand, or a thoughtful gesture. To know Erick was to feel truly seen and cared for. Though his time with us was far too short, Erick lived a life full of passion, love, and beauty. His memory will forever live on in the hearts of all who knew him - in every mountain trail, every note of music, and every quiet act of kindness.
Erick is survived by his loving parents, Jorge Magaña Contreras and Adela Orantes Ayala; his siblings, Georgina Magaña Orantes and Eduardo Magaña Orantes; and his partner and best friend, Adriana Castillo. He also leaves behind a large extended family and many close friends, all of whom were touched by his beautiful spirit.
He was preceded in death by his beloved grandparents, Adela Orantes Campos and Medardo Ayala.
Those wishing to honor Erick's life and legacy may make memorial contributions in his name to the National Park Foundation, in care of Lighthouse Family Mortuary, 2525 W. 16th Street, Suite C, Greeley, Colorado 80634. Condolences may be shared with the family at www.lighthousefamilylfm.com.
