Erika Anna Rehfeld

Erika Anna Rehfeld, affectionately known as Oma to those who loved her most, passed away peacefully on December 26, 2023, in West New York. Born on June 27, 1939, in Germany, Erika's journey was marked by her wisdom, creativity, and generosity, traits that endeared her to all who had the privilege of knowing her.
Erika's life was one of dedication and love, first to her beloved husband Herman, who predeceased her, and then to her adoring children Joanne, Susan Giacumbo (Danny), Michael (Jill), and Markus. She was a cherished Oma to her grandchildren Daniel and Katrina Giacumbo, Michael Jr., Joel, and Abigail Rehfeld, who will carry the legacy of her love and teachings.
Trained as a tailor in her native Germany, Erika brought a meticulous and artistic touch to everything she did. Her role as a mother and homemaker was her first and most cherished career, where she infused her home with warmth and the mouthwatering aromas of her cooking. Later in life, Erika joined Value Line, where she served as a Fulfillment Supervisor for over 40 years. Her commitment to her work was unwavering, and she retired in 2018 after a distinguished career that earned her the respect and admiration of her colleagues.
Erika's interests were as varied as they were passionate. She found solace in the tranquility of her garden, tending to her plants especially her flower boxes, with the same care she gave to her family. Her culinary skills were unmatched, and her kitchen was the heart of the home, where family and friends gathered to enjoy her delicious creations. Shopping was another joy for Erika, who had an eye for quality and a knack for finding the perfect item for any occasion.
Those who knew Erika will remember her for her wise counsel, her creative spirit, and her generous heart. She had a remarkable ability to listen and offer advice that was both insightful and comforting. Her creative talents were evident in her sewing, her beautifully kept home, and the joyous celebrations she helped create.
Erika's passing leaves a void in the hearts of those who loved her, but her spirit will continue to inspire and guide us. Her life was a testament to the power of love, the beauty of creativity, and the importance of generosity. As we say farewell to Oma, we celebrate a life well-lived and a legacy that will endure through the generations.
