Erlene Maude Abshire (née Katz) was born on November 20, 1936, to Earl and Ruth (née Coleman) Katz. She passed away peacefully on May 30, 2025, surrounded by her loving family.
Erlene was the devoted and loving wife of the late Earl Abshire, with whom she shared 30 wonderful years of marriage.
She was a cherished mother to Ruthie Ellis-Katz, Richard Katz, David (Brenda) Katz, Mary (Larry) Abshire-Jacobs, and Wanda Abshire-Engle. A proud grandmother, Erlene is lovingly remembered by her grandchildren: April, Stephen, Keith, Bryan, Timothy, Misty, Jason, Ashton, Chris, Michael, Marie, and Johnathan. Her legacy continues through her 29 great-grandchildren and 8 great-great-grandchildren.
Erlene was the dear sister of Charles and Jerry Katz and was preceded in death by her siblings Stanley Katz and Brenda Katz-Flexer. She also held a deep love for her stepmother, Harriet Martin-Katz.
Over the course of her life, Erlene worked at Kenner's Toys and Frisch's for more than 30 years. She was known for her strong work ethic, warm heart, and unwavering dedication to her family and community.
Family and friends are invited to honor Erlene's life on Thursday, June 5th, 2025, at Neidhard Young Funeral Home. Visitation will take place from 5:00 p.m. to 7:30 p.m., with a funeral service immediately following at 7:30 p.m.
Memorial donations may be made to The Dragonfly Foundation, the American Heart Association, or the American Cancer Society.
She will be deeply missed and forever remembered by all who were blessed to know her.
