Obituary of Ernest E. Handy Jr.
Ernest "Ernie" E. Handy Jr, age 61 of Fonda, died Unexpectedly Thursday, March 7, 2024, at his residence.
He was born January 9, 1963, in Gloversville NY, the son of the late; Ernest E. Handy Sr and Bonnie Lee (Oare) Handy.
Ernie was a Johnstown high school graduate of 1981 as well as attending BOCES for autobody technician. He was well known in the area for this long-time passion and started his career at Dals Hallow in Johnstown, NY where he was employed for many years. He continued his passion for working on cars throughout his years. In his earlier years he enjoyed racing go karts at Dodge City Speedway and Caroga Creek Raceway. You would often see him on Saturday nights at Fonda Speedway.
Ernie enjoyed camping, ice fishing, hunting, and if you knew Ernie you would know he was a jokester every chance he got. He also had a passion for music, his all-time favorite being Elvis.
Ernie is survived by his two children, Courtney (Ryan) Tabor of Northville NY and Cody (Nicole) Handy of Broadalbin NY, his four grandchildren, Bryce and Blake Tabor, and Camdyn and Carsyn Handy. Siblings: Victoria (Bill) Getman, Vernon (Kelly) Handy, and James (Jeannie) Handy as well as several nieces, nephews, and cousins. He was also survived by his companion Charlene Pollock.
He was predeceased by his parents, Ernest E. Handy Sr, and Bonnie Lee (Oare) Handy as well as several aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The passing of Ernie has left a huge hole in many hearts, and we know wherever he is he will be with us.
The family will receive relatives and friends from 4 to 6 pm Thursday, March 14 at Betz, Rossi, Bellinger & Stewart Family Funeral Homes, 51 Fremont St, Gloversville, NY where a Funeral Service will follow at 6 pm with the Rev. Dr. R.W. Williams officiating.
