Ernest Gene Johnson, 77 of Savannah, TN left this life for his eternal home on August 1, 2025, at 3:15pm surrounded by his loving wife of 54 years and his daughter. He was born to the union of Edgar (Red) and Martha Johnson of Springdale, Arkansas. He is survived by his wife Lequette English Johnson of Savannah. TN, his daughter Tiffany Johnson Burnette and husband Doug of Scottsville, KY, two grandsons, Chandler Christensen and wife Meredith of Seymour, IN and Hayden Christensen of Seymour, IN and extended family. He is preceded in death by his mother Martha Hyden, his father Edgar (Red) Johnson, 2 brothers Penny and Jim Johnson, and one sister Patrica Barton.
Ernie was a skilled barber by trade for many years and often ministered while cutting hair. He pastored several churches and evangelized spreading the word of the Lord. He was the pastor of Olivet Pentecostal Church from March 2020 until his death.
His favorite things to do was to preach, fish and hunt. He loved spending time with his friends and family, especially his two grandsons. Ministering was his heart and his calling. He loved the Lord and led many people to Him. He was a kind, honest, hardworking man and never met a stranger. He loved going to the church daily for his personal time with God. He loved his yeti cup filled with Diet Dr. Pepper. He loved his dogs. And he had many over the years. His baby Mini (miniature chihuahua) will miss him terribly. He was the writer of a multitude of silly songs that he’d sing horribly off key and remind you that the Bible said to make a joyful NOISE unto the Lord.
He served his country in the United States Army as a Sharpshooter, Paratrooper receiving National Defense Service Medal and Parachutist badge.
SERVICES: Funeral services, to honor and celebrate a life well lived, will be held Friday, August 8, 2025, at 4:00PM at Olivet Pentecostal Church in Savannah, TN where he served as pastor. The family will be receiving friends from 12:00PM until service time at 4:00pm
There will be a private family burial on Saturday August 9, 2025, at Crump, Cemetery.
He will be missed by all who knew him.
Memorials may be directed to the organization of the donor’s choice.
