Ernest "Ernie" William Rapp, 83, of New Harmony, Indiana, born October 8, 1941, to Earl William and Mildred V. (Cooper) Rapp in Evansville, Indiana, passed away, Friday, February 21, 2025 at his home in New Harmony, Indiana.
He graduated from New Harmony High School, Indiana University and earned his Master's Degree at Western Kentucky University. He taught at New Harmony High School and later was a teacher, administrator and superintendent at North Posey High School. He was a United States Navy Veteran serving during the Vietnam War and a member of the VFW, American Legion and the Masonic Artic Lodge in New Harmony, Indiana. He was an Acacia fraternity member and an avid IU Sports fan. He was a cycling enthusiast and enjoyed his grandchildren's sporting events, summers at Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana and snow birding to Ft. Myers during the winter.
Preceding him in death were his parents; wife of 54 years: Margaret "Maggie" Lois (Axton) Rapp; brother: Dr. George Rapp; brother-in-law: Ben Nefkens, PhD; sister-in-law: Peggy Rapp.
Surviving are his sons: Dr. Kyle Rapp (Sherri) and Ryan Rapp; daughter: Stacey Rapp; sister: Helen Nefkens; grandchildren: Noah Rapp (Maddie), Thomas, Jackson "JT", Ella and Andrew "Drew" Rapp, Axton and Adelyn "Ady" Gamblin along with many beloved nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services will be held 11 a.m., Saturday, March 1, 2025 at the Werry Funeral Home in New Harmony, Indiana with burial to follow in Maple Hill Cemetery in New Harmony, Indiana. There will be a celebration of life meal afterwards at the American Legion Post 370, 516 Church Street in New Harmony, Indiana.
Visitation will be 2-7 p.m., Friday, February 28, 2025 at the funeral home with a Masonic service starting at 7 p.m. and visitation continuing 10 a.m. until service time, Saturday, March 1, 2025.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: American Legion Post 370, 516 Church Street, New Harmony, IN 47631 and/or The ALS Association, PO Box 37022, Boone, IA 50037-0022 or online at www.als.org.
