Ernest J. Szugyi, a devoted husband, father, grandfather, brother, and gifted musician, passed away on August 25, 2025, in Pensacola, FL just two weeks after the loss of his beloved bride of 65 years, Diane A. Szugyi.

Born on December 18, 1935, to Ladislaw J. Szugyi and Elizabeth A. Szugyi (née Thomas), Ernest lived a life marked by quiet excellence, enduring love, and unwavering dedication.

A passionate and accomplished musician, Ernest's love for music and the double bass shaped a lifelong career that touched countless lives. He performed alongside renowned artists, composers, and ensembles, yet his greatest joy came from teaching-imparting his knowledge and reverence for music to generations of students. Known for his playful nature and even-keeled temperament, Ernest was deeply loved by all who knew him. His patience and steadfast care for Diane through every season of life was a quiet testament to enduring love-unmatched in its depth and devotion.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Diane; and their infant son, Ernest Szugyi Jr.; affectionately known as "Little Ernie."

Ernest is survived by his three daughters, Ellen (Fred) Greene, Deborah (Donal) Carty, and Linda Szugyi (Wayne Hill); and seven grandchildren, Camille Langiotti, Emily Carty, Erin Carty, Eva Greene, Ryan Carty, Xander Hill, and Gavin Hill; each of whom carries forward his gentle humor and love for family, history books and all things sweet. Ernest was also a cherished brother to Betty A. Berry, Joseph Szugyi, James (Yvonne) Szugyi, and Carolyn Helstrom.

A memorial service to celebrate Ernest and Diane's life will be held at New Testament Fellowship Church on October 25, 2025 at 2 p.m., where family and friends will gather to honor a man whose life was an example of compassion, dedication, and grace.

Psalm 100:1–2 "Make a joyful noise to the Lord, all the earth! Serve the Lord with gladness; come into his presence with singing!"
