Ester Marie Smith, a cherished matriarch, and beacon of love, passed away peacefully on September 26, 2025, at the age of 87. Born on October 6, 1937, Ester's life was a testament to her unwavering faith and the joy she found in the simple pleasures of life.
Ester was the loving heart of a large and vibrant family. She was a devoted mother to James Culver, Sharon Barr, Patricia Klauka, Dean (Julie) Culver, Stephen (Tammie) Culver, siblings Ray (Dorothy) Drake, and Patricia (William) Kreiger. Her legacy continued to flourish through her 17 grandchildren, who brought immeasurable joy to her life: Robert (Angela), Rebecca, Bri, Nicole, Sarah (Timothy), Jacob, Kelly (Micky), Nora (Adam), Jonah (Simcha), Dayton, Josiah, Dillon (Teighan), Derick, Jessica, Catrina, Alysia (Steve), and Chelsea. Ester was blessed to see the world blossom further through her 31 great-grandchildren: Taylor, Grayson, Graelynn, Emmalynn, Hudson, Annalynn (James), Jordan (Gracie), Gabrielle, Alexander, Bryan, Amanda, Noah, Aiden, Elizabeth, Bentlee, Benson, Jared, Jena, Jaidyn, Justine, Ryan, Nathan, Owen, Phoenix, Mason, Mackenzie, Liam, Emmalynn, Easton, and the little ones who continued to light up her world, Keaton and one more soon to join the family.
Ester was welcomed into Heaven by her beloved parents, Lewis and Mabel, first husband James Culver, second husband Lloyd Smith, her dear son-in-law Terence Barr, daughter-in-law Mary Culver, son-in-law William Klauka, great-grandson Benjamin Godo, and her four siblings who had gone before her.
A life-long Christian, Ester's faith was the cornerstone of her existence. She shared her musical gifts as a member of the Imlay City Community Choir, lifting her voice in praise and worship. Her love for music extended to her talent for playing the piano, often gracing her family and friends with melodies that touched their hearts.
Ester was also an active member of the Imlay City Senior Center, where she formed lasting friendships and contributed to her community. Her selfless, loving nature was evident in every aspect of her life, from the way she raised her children to her interactions with friends and strangers alike.
Her interests were a reflection of her practical and nurturing spirit. Ester found joy in thrifting and visiting yard sales, always on the lookout for treasures that she could share with others. Her keen eye for value and her generous heart made these excursions more than just a hobby; they were an extension of her kindness.
Ester's life was a living example of the Biblical verse, "A good name is to be chosen rather than great riches, loving favor rather than silver and gold" (Proverbs 22:1). She was the epitome of a Proverbs 31 woman, her worth far above rubies. Her children rise up and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praises her: "Many daughters have done well, but you excel them all" (Proverbs 31:28-29).
As we bid farewell to Ester Marie Smith, we celebrate a life beautifully lived and a journey completed with grace. Her memory will continue to be a guiding light for all who were blessed to know her. We take solace in knowing that she is now singing with the angels and playing her piano for the Lord. Ester's love and lessons will forever be etched in the hearts of those she touched, and her spirit will live on in the generations that follow.
