Ethan Paul Durkee, 44, passed away unexpectedly on October 25, 2025, surrounded by family. Ethan had been battling renal failure and was a proud kidney transplant recipient. He was born in
Rutland, VT, and graduated from Mill River Union High School in 2005.
Ethan worked for Practicos Landscaping for many years and enjoyed building unique landscaping designs, and was a master craftsman that made custom decks and fencing. Ethan's work was that of true talent and reflected his love of woodworking and plants. Ethan enjoyed tinkering on things, especially when it came to his beloved Mustang convertible. He was an engineer at heart and could pull a car's engine apart and put it all back together. He had the most beautiful hands that could build anything. Ethan loved being in nature, working on cars, spending time with animals, and being with those he loved most, especially Kristin and his group of lifelong friends.
Ethan was a man of faith, and had a true servant's heart; He would help anyone in need. Through all of the trials and tribulations he faced in his short lifetime, he continued to believe in God's plan and to remain hopeful. In the way he carried himself, he helped guide countless people to find and rekindle their faith.
He was predeceased by his parents, Dean Durkee (2010) and Janet Aquistapace Durkee (2025), and by his in-laws, Jerry Brogren (2025) and Patricia Pickett Brogren (2023).
He is survived by his loving wife and high school sweetheart, Kristin Brogren of Rutland; his sister, Sarah Durkee, and nephew, Noah Durkee, also of Rutland; and his sister, Devon Durkee, and her husband, Joe Bettolo, along with their children, Alexa, Eva, and Joe, of Utah. He is survived by his extended family, including Nathan Brogren, Megan Brogren, Derek Gilman, Brendan and Kelly Brogren, and Trent and Makayla Brogren, all of Rutland. He also leaves behind his aunts and uncles: Gloria Lamoureux of Cornwall; Donnaleen Farwell of Rutland; James Pickett and Ann Jarrosak of Wallingford; Pattie Trapeni of Rutland; Frank and Suzanne Aquistapace of Rutland; and Mary and Joe Smoolca of Connecticut. He shared special relationships with his great cousins Wayne, Linda, and Maureen Durkee, as well as his great-aunt and uncle, Laura Aquistapace; his godmother, Regina Sears; and Julie and Fred Boudreau. He is also survived by many other beloved cousins who held a special place in his heart.
A Catholic Mass will be held at Christ the King Church in Rutland on 11/15/25 at 1pm, followed by a celebration of his life at the Franklin Conference Center starting at 2pm.
