With deep love and gratitude, the family of Etta Mae Marr announces her passing at the age of 86.

Born on August 2, 1939, in Russell, Arkansas, to Florence and Louis Mears, Etta grew up surrounded by a large, lively family. She was the oldest of twelve siblings. Preceding her in death are Eddie, John, Thelma, Marcellus, Charles, Ervin, Lola, and Carl, and survived by her brothers Kenny, Billy, and sister Martha.

On August 18, 1957, Etta married the love of her life, Melvin Marr, with whom she shared 61 years. Fittingly, Melvin passed away on their 61st wedding anniversary in 2018 and the family finds comfort in knowing they are reunited once more. Together, Etta and Melvin built a strong family foundation rooted in love, laughter, and resilience.

She was a devoted mother to Deeon Marr and Tim (Beverly Smith) Marr; a cherished grandmother to ten grandchildren: Jennifer Vanderwall, Sarah Martinez, Colin Marr, Tim (Keisha) Marr, Martha (Joe) Obaseki, Kaitlin Brandt, Emmalee (Jacob Lee) Marr, Collin Smith, Joselyn Smith, and Anna Smith; a proud great-grandmother to 16; and recently celebrated becoming a great-great-grandmother to little Finnan. She is survived by countless nieces and nephews.

Etta worked for Donnelly until retirement in 2003, after which she embraced the things she loved most - tending her gardens, sewing, making her signature goulash, enjoying road trips, and shopping excursions. She especially delighted in time spent with her family, where she was the heart of countless gatherings.

Etta will be remembered as a woman of warmth, humor, sassiness, and strength. Her legacy continues on in the generations she leaves behind and in the lives of all who were blessed to know her.

A celebration of life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice of Holland, American Cancer Society, or Senior Resources of Muskegon.
