Eugene W. Aitken, 82, of Morgantown, passed away on March 1, 2025 surrounded by his family after a hard fought battle with an extended illness. He was born in Morgantown April 20, 1942, one of three children to William and Sofie Aitken.
Eugene was a graduate of Morgantown High School & went to work for Morgantown Glass, until he was called to serve in the US Army during the Vietnam War. He was a convoy driver, marksman & was honorably discharged. Eugene returned to civilian life & went to work at Davis and Lynch Glass factory in Star City, where he worked until he retired in 2008. He also worked as the custodian for the First Christian Church for over 30 years.
He was a member of the VFW Post #9916 & a faithful servant of the First Christian Church Disciples of Christ in Morgantown.
Eugene loved dogs and could be seen sneaking snacks to them often. He had a love of hunting, fishing and taking long drives through the country to find a place to eat. You could find him at the bowling alley or cutting it up on the dance floor doing the jitterbug with his beloved wife, Joyce.
Eugene is survived by his daughter Brenda Joyce and son-in-law Jacob Sipes; son, Stephen Eugene Aitken, daughter-in-law Deanna Aitken; and grandson, Quinten Aitken. Eugene is preceded in death by his father, William Aitken; mother, Sofie Aitken; brothers, Ronald and Richard Aitken; and his loving wife of 43 years, Joyce Aitken. The family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Leesa Shoemaker for the wonderful care she provided Eugene over the last several years.
Friends may gather at McCulla Funeral Home on Thursday, March 6, 2025 from 4-7 pm and again on Friday, from 10 am until the 11 am funeral service with Junius Lewis officiating.
