Eugene R. "Buzz" Carlos Jr. age 79, of Manhattan passed away unexpectedly at his home on Thursday, June 6, 2024. Survived by his devoted children Christie Simon, Michelle (Craig) Falduto and Scott (Nellie) Carlos, grandchildren Haily Simon, Gehrig Simon, Jake Simon, Kassidy Falduto, Nicholas Falduto, Ethan Falduto, Sophie Carlos, Cynthia Carlos, and Lucy Carlos, his siblings Michael (Kathy) Carlos, Peggy (Ricky) Walsh, Sherri (Mike) Magnuson, Phil (Patsy) Carlos and Denny (Mari) Carlos, his sisters in law and brother in law Anita Rohwedder, Karen Hyde and Dean (Sharilyn) Liestman and numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Preceded in death by his parents Eugene Sr. and Mary (nee Fitzgerald) Carlos, his wife Janice "Jan" (nee Liestman) Carlos, a grandson in infancy Christopher Carlos, and his brothers-in-law Don Rohwedder and Dick Hyde. Buzz was raised in Manhattan and graduated from Lincoln-Way Central High School. He was a long time member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Manhattan and the Manhattan American Legion Post 935. A proud veteran of the United States Army stationed in Germany as a cook. Buzz and Jan thoroughly enjoyed Germany. After returning home from the Army, Buzz went back to work for ComEd and settled in Frankfort where he raised his family. Buzz retired from ComEd at the age of 56 on his birthday. With fond memories, the children spoke of times spent with Buzz; countless summers in Michigan at Sister Lakes, watching Chicago Bears and White Sox games, gardening (especially tomatoes), his flawless yard, his handywork fixing anything and everything for anybody that needed help, his electrical skills and side jobs, his love of golf, dancing at the Holiday Inn Tiki Bar earning the name "Mean Gene the Dancing Machine", and wintering in Ft. Myers Beach Florida for 25 years to name a few. The most precious things to Buzz and Jan were their grandchildren. Their lives revolved around them, attending all their events even if it meant traveling great distances. On the off chance that they couldn't make an event, Buzz was quick to call and get the play by play, his grandchildren brought him and Jan their greatest joys in life. His last day, Buzz was in the middle of his morning routine, he turned around and there was Jan to catch him in Heaven. A loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Buzz will be missed by all who knew and loved him. Visitation for Buzz will take place on Monday, June 17, 2024 from 4-8:00 P.M. at Forsythe Gould Funeral Home. Funeral service will take place the following day, Tuesday, June 18, 2024 beginning with prayers at the funeral home at 10:00 A.M. then processing to St. Joseph Catholic Church, 235 W. North St., Manhattan for 10:30 A.M. Mass of Christian Burial. Interment with committal service and full military honors will take place at Abraham Lincoln National Cemetery, Elwood at 12:30 P.M. where Buzz will be reunited with Jan once again.
